Shelbyville Crappies!!!
Had a blast yesterday fishing with a buddy. Fished for 1.5 hrs and crappie was non stop. Had our limit of overs and only caught 3 unders. Its a good day when you can catch any unders but throwing back overs. Buddy caught one that was over 13.5in, a real fat slab. However he caught a blacknose crappie. I knew Clinton had them but didn't think Shelby had them. Maybe someone here can verify, it was a nice big fatty too around 12in. The ville is gonna be awesome this year with big crappies.

Good job. Yes shelbyville has blacknose in there, just not very many of them. The local biologist wants anyone who catches them
And doesn't keep them to throw them on the bank because they aren't sure what they will do to the reproductive cycle of the whites and blacks in the lake. I just throw them back myself if I don't keep them, but that's what I've heard from some reliable sources.

which end were you fishing? and good job and report

We always fish north end from eagle and up. Fish were shallow...cork set about 1.5ft deep. Got to a point where we were calling shots as to where we would catch the next fish. pulling about 8-9 fish on every structure we hit. awesome day, might get back down there later this week.

I've caught blacknose in the ville for at least 10 years. Usually in the fall at bo woods, although none there this fall. Did catch some smaller ones at Old Nelson this fall.

so what's the story with the blacknose? are those the crappie that have the black stripe on the bridge of their nose running to the dorsal fin? are they not desirable? Interested in learning more. thanks.
