If you are talking about the US2, then yes there is a cable that would only give you 2D sonar.
It will do that but Humminbird warns this will damage the unit.Quote:

Maybe Humminbird Greg will see this, if not mistaken he was the one that posted that in the past. Have seen the same on BBC in the Humminbird section their, if its out of warranty go for it.
When I had problems with a 788 di and spoke with humminbird they told me to not run it thru my us2 because it would/could damage the unit. Ive never heard of a di/si unit being damaged this way but they will tell u not to do it.
The 798 is not on the compatibility chart from Minn Kota for the US2 sonar.
But the 798 does use 83kHz/200kHz so why could it not use the AS SIDB Y cable to get the 2d from the US2...?? (Or any of the SI or DI units capable of 83kHz/200kHz)...??Quote:

I am confused along with Rickie.....I would have thought it would also be possible to use the dual beam transducer selection and use it for 2D.
You definitely aren't going to be able to get SI with it.
I was surprised as well when I saw the MK US2 compatibility list, so I started asking questions about it. Still no answer as to why but part of the answer may be that they do not use the same piezo element Rickie. Plus the current 798ci HD Si units do not have a Dual Beam or US2 selection for the Transducer Select menu.
Is it just the 798ci HD that doesn't use the the same piezo as the US2 ...or all of the SI and DI units...??Quote:

Not all, this is the first I heard. I run a 798 on the boat I just sold for sometime off of the US2. I did not have SI on it, but 2D worked fine. This was not a HD model.
We have not changed the 2D piezo in our transducers.
I’m pretty sure that the US2 uses a different piezo.
The DI model units use another (different) 2D piezo.
I just checked on my old 798c Si model unit, running the last software version for it (6.300), it has “Dual Beam” as a Transducer Select menu selection, so maybe it is just with the “HD” 7987 model units (798ci HD Si).
