Why don't you drag Chatt and some of your rods to the Crappie Camp?
Chatt has a trip scheduled for that weekend. I've talked to him about the camp and he said he didn't think he could take two days of me.
BTW Leland, your rods are the best I've ever owned bar none. The fact that you create a work of art when building one specifically to order is worth a bit more. A guy's got to make a living. Charge enough to cover your expenses plus give yourself a decent hourly rate per rod. It will be well worth it. Welcome back my friend! Don't cheat yourself!
Thanks reaper, I appreciate that. I continue to get calls from alot of fisherman. My original plan was to grow the thing into a regional brand then sell out and fish the rest of my days. Then do a few personal builds along the way. I have some really neat ideas for new prototype rods to test out later, then introduce for test marketing. It's all about the marketing as you all know......hard to just stay one size. You guy's feel free to pitch out your own ideas. Most good rods out there were concieved by fishermen not maketing majors.
Lip, glad to see you back. I became a CDC member shortly before you disappeared. Met you at the first Eufaula CDC Tournament EB and Odie put on. Heard a lot of great things about your rods. dj
You know those 2, 'Slab Sticks' are prolly 25:dono years old & have landed over a ton of crappies:rolleyes: each. Not that I'm that good but clients are.:Rofl:Rofl Work them over with your skills:notworthy and I'll fish:fish them for another ton.:fingerdance Thanks Leland !!!! <*)}}}><
Chatt; You will be happy to know I have located the original blanks for the old Slab Sticks. 7-0 ft. 2 & 3 power blanks , those are American made and #1 quality. With braided line they make that distinctive "TWING" sound when you set the hook!
Hot dang leland is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
Gosh, I love the slab stick you made me.
Leland - Make the price of your rods worth your time. You HAVE to make a reasonable profit. Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chatt; I got all those rods stipped down and sanded the handles then sealed them with a coat of urethane. I'm going to run Micro guides on all of them to shave off some weight. I also snanded the Slabstick blanks back to their original finish. Their going to look and fish great!
I'm sure they're going to look terrific when you're finished Leland. Ol Chat will be tickled! :)
Chatt; Got the last 4 on the drying rack.....their ready to "Twing"!
And de 'red buds' are jest:highfive bout ready to bloom. Ima readyDevil Icon fer dem!! Got sum new reels and:ThumbsUp slick Power Pro rapped around spools. Bring it:fingerdanceJumping Jacks Icon on!!!! <*)}}}><
Got to get all these rods done.....I got to fish too.
Chatt; Your rods will ship out Friday morning, USPS Priority mail, I will insure them for full value. a million $ sound good?
I have always wanted one of those Lip Ripper Rods, however after seeing the insurance price, I doubt I can afford one of them!!!! LOL
Ledge, your rods went out today. Those Huckabees are modified now....., just add water.
lip I got a couple of rods from ya bout 5 years ago after fishin with chatt wonderfull rods make sure you charge him plenty he's got it glad ya back into it
Lip Rippers, I have some huckabee dipping sticks that I use a lot and some Pro angler Rods also!! If your ready to build a rod shoot me a pm and we can talk.
Redge, I would hate to part with mine, but I hate to see a man without having a famous Liprippin Rod. Tell you what, I'll sell mine on credit to you. $75 down, $50 a month for one year and you'll be in business. Then if you like, I will go ahead and see you the bottom half of the rod too. Same price.......so see, if you really put your heart to it, you can be proud owner of one of Leland's custom designed rods. People will be pulling you over going down the highway wanting your autograph and many restaurants in this area give you a free meal when you carry your Lip-ripper rod inside their cafe. Just be careful and don't poke anyone in the eye. :)
Stink you have me ROFL!!! I'll consider your offer.
Ledge, looks good. The only time I fished with a Meat Dragga I didn't like the tip heavy feel it had unless I gripped it out on the blank. I think I would like the modification
you had Lip do. That was my only complaint .... just my 2cents. A lot of guys really like their feel. dj
Man that's a nice job! Can't ever force myself to bite the $100 bullet to try a Huckabee rod. My Pro Angler rods have been good to me for half the price. Maybe one day.
If you bite it one time you can bite it twice and have LR build you a slab stick.
TC & I talked over the phone about options to modify his rods, the only other way is to balance them would be a weight balancer kit you slide up over the butt end. Only drawback to that option is more overall weight and he didn't want that, so moving the seats was the way to go.
Attachment 159963 Got the 'Rods' back:woohoo Monday. My O My:biggrin how I'm so impressed!!! Put on new :ThumbsUpPflueger President reels, #6925 loaded with Power Pro, Super 8 slick, 15lb test, hi-vis yellow. Crappie Pro jig & Bobby Garland:fingerdance plastic. 1st fish caught Tuesday!!! Ima in a little bit of :notworthyheaven. Thanks so much Leland!!! <*)}}}><
How'd ya like the T-Minus overhall? YES I can see the difference on the end of your line!
Chatt, why don't you git one of them measurin sticks that reads in inches instead of them puny milli meters?
Hold my hand boss............
An update on Chatts rods, I removed the singlefoot spinning guides on all his rods and replaced them with micro's. Soooo much lighter and rods handle way better. My next rods will have these guides for sure.
D. Street I have your rod going, man that's the lightest 7-6" rod I've ever seen! TC, I have your 11-0' goin as well. You have you still want a blue color scheme correct? And I have an all white 7-0' to be OU colors all the way for the jig man.
