I caught it in Milford on a catfish rig.
I am not sure but i have caught a lot of them. They may be in the Herring family?
That there is a goldeneye good catfish bait! They can fight like crazy too.
golden eye a part of the hering family.loads of them in Milford
Agree. That is a pretty good size one too. The state record is just over 2 lbs. Sadly, I cut one up that eclipsed that mark before knowing the record. LOL.
Must be slippery looks like someone's squeezing the crap out of it
My uncle called them skipjack or golden eye. Always caught right after ice out. Catfish bait or garden fertilizer.
I about lost a jig rod to one of them suckers walleye fishing last year at Milford. They do make good cutbait too.
That's pretty cool. Looks like it's getting the death grip as well.
Looks almost exactly like the one I caught last year at Milford, maybe a little bigger

Good blue cat bait
Greetings: )
Yes these fish make excellent catfish bait. And their meat is not really desired for table fair, as we traditionally like to cook crappie, walleye and catfish. But …………. They are excellent smoked. These fish are highly sought after in Canada and in the northern regions of Michigan and surrounding states far North. Smoke them up and let them sit for just a little bit in the fridge to cool them down. Get a nice layer of paper towel on top of a plate. Flake out the meat on the paper towel and put another layer of paper towel on top of it to remove some of the oil from the meat. Sit down and watch a sports game with a beer, saltine crackers and flaked out smoked fish meat. Guys that is just awesome. Glad to hear that they are down here. Have had to get my supply of them from below Gavin’s point dam at Yankton, SD. Joe
Looks like a big gizzard shad!!!
It is american shad. Just got one today. Smell your hand.....
Considering the fact that American Shad aren't native to anywhere even close to Kansas makes it pretty much impossible for it to be an American Shad. Shad are built much taller than Goldeye and also lack the teeth that are in that much heavier built jaw of the fish in the picture also.
on the Arkansas river, we called them skipjack. A kind of freshwater herring. there is no better cut bait for catfish! used to be our job as kids to catch them on bream jigs for trotline bait
Thanks guys, sorry it took so long to reply
