Is the foot petal like any other foot petal as far as reaction time? Seems like I have read somewhere that is was not a good motor jig fishing structure. Or maybe they were talking about spot lock or something. I'm bout to take my old motor off and just want to make sure because I'm not gonna be able to test it until Saturday.
Slower to react. But you just have to get used to it and react accordingly.

Bird down.. Remote is all you need.. You'll hate the foot pedal unless the remote battery dies.. They're great for long lining spider rig'n, etc... But they absolutely SUCK for jig fishing.. By you a quick connect bracket and DONT get rid of your cable steer
I have a hand control rip tide I been using. Used lots of foot controlled motors and like jig fishing with them but don't like putting a fish in the cooler and getting back to the bow and see that that I have floated off my spot.Quote:

I run both the Terrova and the Fortrex on my boat and I have the Minn Kota brackets that allow me to change from one to the other quickly. I also put a transducer on each motor and have the universal sonar as a back-up as well.
they are the PITS for jig fishing.................cable steer is much, much better.

Bird Down, You will want to look at the MKA-47 UNIV Quick Release Bracket and the MKA-48 UNIV Quick Release Bracket Replacement Top.
Yea just checked them out. Thanks. U get two bottom pieces and two top pieces or just one bottom peice and lay the one ur not using somewhere out of the way? They sure are proud of those things.
The 47 is both pieces - the 48 is the top piece.
I would get two 47's only if I was going to put the extra bottom piece on another boat.
The bracket is well worth the cost, and the Terrova has changed the way I fish for the better - but like you - I still prefer the Cable steer for jig fishing and a few other techniques.
I've been contemplating a Terrova for yrs.. Never pulled the trigger because of what you goin through... Love my pole fishing
I like the simplicity of a hand controlled motor for jig fishing. I have had a couple of trips ruined by broken cables and ended up steering with a vice grip tiller. However I consider my ipilot to be the best tool in my bag.
It's turns with the foot control just like it does with the copilot. SLOW but if you're standing up in the front of the boat with a jig pole in each hand, it's better than trying to put one rod up under your armpit as you turn with the copilot.
Good advise on the brackets Tommy. If you can afford both motors, you'll have the best of both worlds.
With my Terrova, I like the foot pedal when it's cold and raining. Hate freezing my hand off!!!!
just depends on wheather you want to just deal with it being slow or spend $250-$275, plus mounting costs to get the brackets and get them installed. I just deal with it
I have the Terrova 80 with iPilot Link, and have really just started using it this year. I find the motor turns a little faster with the foot control versus the Link. Having said that, the iTrack function is awesome. Yesterday I created a track about 10-15 feet away from the bank, went back to the start, and jig fished all the way down, never touched the controls, prop speed of 1. I have had both cable and electric steer, and once you are used to the electric steer, I don't see a lot of difference. On the foot control you have to get used to the placement of the switches where on the cable steer you just move your foot fore and aft, touching the motor on button. One advantage I have found with the iPilotlink handheld is quickly changing your motor speed when the need arises. I also like the target speed. Everybody has an opinion, just mine. I would never go back to a cable steer.
Quick question, why didn't you just reverse the track and fish back??? I love the Ipilot and use it for both, eagerly awaiting delivery of the 112 Ilink.Quote:

That's what I do, reverse and head back along the same track. I have created a track quickly without fishing, then go back and fish. Amazed at what some these electronics will do these days, if I get bored fishing, I get to play with my gadgets for a while!!Quote:
