This is the 43 inch pole. I should have gotten the 36 inch pole for my boat but it gives you an idea of what it looks like. Top picture shows how far it goes below my boat. A little too deep, but easily fixed by drilling another hole in the pipe when I figure out the depth I want. Second picture shows it turned to the side slightly to see what is ahead on one side. Third picture is straight for normal both side viewing. Fourth is how easily it slips into and removes from the holder. Fifth is it stowed on the clips that screw into the deck. And last is top view. I really think I will like it since I have the Xi5 and it auto turning would blur out my pictures all the time, and no wires from the trolling motor this way by using this and the US2 in the motor.
Why didn't you buy one of Rickies ? He makes a nice one.
I don't know anybody on here I'm new to this site....
Sorry I didn't look at your post count. He goes by Rvinc or close to that.
here ya go check em out www.podunkideas.com Its called Da Ducer Apparatis.
His don't look bad either, but it seems the one I got is pretty simple and only cost $60.00 + shipping. I think it's 53.00 + shipping for the shorter version like I should have bought, but I'll cut it down. Pretty simple fix. But I wanted to make sure I got under everything... Well I sure did, About 3 foot if I have it on the deep setting....LOL but it's an easy fix drill a hole and cut the pipe off. It's about 18" under the boat as it sits now in the pictures. Pictures makes it look a lot bigger than it is really.
Jimmy, thanks for the pictures a description.:highfive I would also like a close-up of your Xi5 mount if you don't mind. I need to see it because we have similar type boats & I would like to use my MK mounting plate if possible.
Thanks,,,,
I think that design from Fishing Specialties is purty neat...
:ThumbsUp
Rickie
Looks good and seems to be a fair price:welcome:welcome
Looks good, simple and functional. I looked at one. I am just too old to put a pole in a hole anymore. ha
Hmmm, that could be made to work with the 360.
That definitely adheres to the KISS rule......pretty neat......and could be another 360 mount option. Is there anything to keep it from popping out if it bumps something.
There's not really anything in this one from keeping it from popping out, but he designed it pretty well... it fits loose but tight. It's metal on metal and I think if I hit something it would tear up the pole before it popped out. The metal on metal turns really easy so I wrapped a round of black tape to keep it from turning so easily. There is a lock if you want it too to keep it from turning, this probably keeps it from popping out, but it also might keep you from pulling it out quickly if you need too... He also makes one with a spring on bottom in case you hit something. But, with this huge lss-2 he thought it might wobble with the spring on the end so I went with a solid pole. Hopefully I can keep an eye on the finder in time, but an accident will happen eventually, I'm sure. I guess I should order another pole just in case and he quits making them.
If you had it on the driver's side, you might be able to see an upcoming accident quickly enough to take action.
I take it out when I'm at the wheel and use a 998 Humminbird at the console. I wanted good down imaging but didn't want to give up side imaging so I put structure scan on the front. They got pretty good deals on the hds units right now, so I went for that. I wanted to compare the two brands anyways. And these things have such a good resale I figured I couldn't lose much. 1200 after rebate for hds8 structure scan so I went for it. A few days later a used hds8 with lss 1 box sold for 1330 on e-bay. I guess everybody hasn't heard that the prices have come down.... It'll be a while before I can learn each unit good enough to say which is my preference, but so far Humminbird wins hands down for side imaging of the bottom, and Lowrance wins hands down for picking up fish in the water or on bottom. I did a lot of research and thought I'd get the best of both this way, but now I got 2 units to learn that wont link instead of just one.... ha ha sometimes I think too much... I think....
so it looks like you are saying in si mode that the lowrance picks up fish better out side the water column right?
That's the picture I got the first time I used it. We were fishing for big schools of black crappie that are roaming around this power plant lake in the warm water end. Well on the hummingbird all that we could see is small white dots when they came by. We could see them, but they were very small dots. The HDS8, when the school was coming I could see their shadow on the bottom before the fish returns even got to the screen, it was kinda like 3-d compared to the 998. Fish returns showed up much better on the Lowrance, and after I play with the settings a little I'm sure it'll get better. The HDS did have a "foggy" look to it. I'm not sure if this is due to the color I was using or what. But I looked in the users manual and in the manual the very first picture was foggy looking like mine, so I guess it may be their nature. I'm used to that clean crisp picture look of the 998. Hopefully there is some settings I can play with to get rid of this, I've only had it out once and didn't have time due to fishing to mess with it much.(and I forgot my manual)....
don't blame you for fishing ,after all that is why we buy all these toys:biggrin.when you do get a chance ,take a pic of both units if you can sorter like you describe and happy fishing
You can store your manual in pdf format on your unit. FYI
That is pretty sweet.
Another thing I'll add is how easy it was to mount it the way I did... I used self tapping metal screws with a hex head as you can see in the pics. They drill right through the aluminum and hold plenty tight without having to take the boat apart and mount with bolts if you don't wish to. They don't drill through the plastic very well so would be a lot easier to drill the mounting holes on through with a drill bit, then use the self tapping metal screws to drill through the aluminum with no pilot hole. It is very solid.
Ordered 36 pole with spring bottom last week should be in any day. Mounting mine on front of tr20 glass boat to hb998.
great pics should help me mount mine. Have hb 998 at console also.
so much to learn but like the one at console and waiting to mount new 998 hd I bought on bbc electronics forum $1000
new in box. Couldn't pass it up. Guess everybody's upgrading to the newer versions.
Do you still have the bow mount item? If so, how do you like it?
Do you still have the hds unit? If so, how is it?
