Spider Rig Setup From Scratch

Hey guys do a lot of lurking on here and appreciate all the good info…need some help. Ready to take the plunge into the world of spider rigging and looking for suggestions on setting up my little boat. I'm in a do all 15-50 edge (pic below) FCTM and graph will be up front, light bar will come off now that duck season is over. Let me know what you think on what rod holders would work best and length rods and number of rods that wold be feasible when i get a little experience (6? 8?) thanks in advance

well shifty, since I liked your song on the "fuge", i'll let you in !! ditch that fctm and buy a I-pilot that's 1st. secondly get on grizzley jig co. interweb site and buy you some hi-tek rod holders, the newer ones... cant think of the name but have a deeper v in front for pulling crank baits off the side, and think about an extre base for them to move to. now comes the rod's/reel's-- grizzley sells all flavors and after buying that I-pilot you should check out the pinnacle rod's. they cheap but good enough to start out with. I also read on here the other day about the firecast rod's, which were cheaper than most too. reels are personal preference, think about size during transport... not while in the holder. back to the rod's 12' are ok but I suggest 14' long to get bait farther away from the boat. 1 more thing is a fnder with gps for speed control...and driftsocks to keep it slow in the wind...while on the website order some pre tied double minnow rigs... lite wt. for calm- heavy for windy days. get 8 rods and 2-4 pole holders, and 2 more floor seat bases, cause you will be wanting to take your buddies !! after this look on here and get one of creekslick's transport racks and you will look like a Conway lake "pro"

If the bite is lite, I have trouble watching over 4 poles. My boat is wider and I and a partner fish 8 off the front. In a 1542 I would fish 4 off the front and 4 off the back.

I spider rig from a 1546ds triton. I bent some metal where it would rest on the upper part of the front deck and attached it to to t-rail/track. I had a piping flange welded to the metal and made a rod holder from 3/4in piping and threaded it together to make a T and used split ring holders and attached the walmart version of driftmaster rod holders. It cost around 50$(not including the walmart holders). I also installed double seat bases and run six at one time with two people of front, if its just me i only run four rods. It is not a bad setup and there is plenty of room for a double seat. If you dont mind holes drilled in your boat and you would be spider rigging by yourself I would just bolt a single piping flange in the front deck. Ill try and see if I have any pics. I fish from an alumacraft 1544 that I have 2(4 rod) hi-tek holders in the front of. I have 14 ft firecasts and also 14 ft BnM BGJP which win my vote any day. BPS had a deal on their megacast spinning reels last week when I was there. I like my set-up so far. I do plan on adding 2(2 rod) hi teks in the back. Hope this helps, I too am fairly new to spidering.

I really like the Hi Tek rod holders and there are several places that sell them around here. Mount them as close to the front as you can. On your seats you will probably have to mount them fairly close to gather. On poles I would go with 14 footers, You will have several to choose from I personally use Ozarks but some of the others are good also. If you would like to look at some Ozarks pm me. You will also need to look at some way to transport them so you don't damage them and there are several to choose from to but, Creekslick makes a nice one. Hope these suggestions help.

By the looks of that tailgate, you don't need any extra fishing equipment, you just need a bucket of water, or a water hose to wash the dirt off them before the picture. Maybe you only own a chain stringer and those dirty fish were on the bottom and got dragged through the dirt. If this is the case, a new Yeti would be the ticket to throw your fish in and boost your Crappie Cred.

A tip of the day for you is to fish on the opposite end of the lake from where your house is. Say hi to in in-laws as you go by. Call Meatgetter he can fix you up with some good stuff.

I fish out of a 1546 Xpress. I took a gas pipe and made a T out of it, attached a floor flange to the front floor, and threaded a few DriftMaster holders onto the pipe, and there you go, a 6 rod holder for under $100.

This is the 1st version of my idea, but it shows all the important parts. Now has a longer upright, and longer arms, and 2 more holders on each arm. It is also mounted just in front of the storage compartment in the floor.

I think im about to do the same and build my own rod holders. Im going to use some old bow sight brackets for the bases. That way I can remove them. I'll have under $100 in material for two holders that will hold 6 rods each.
Shifty, what is the top speed of your dad's edge on a lake? I seen a pic of it on another forum. I have the same exact boat. 556 w a 50hp tohatsu and break away plate. I need to know if I'm in the ballpark. How high is his cavitation plate? Thanks.

man i think he's about a 1/2 in above not sure though. he was running a load prop all season said with 3 people and gear he was a steady 35. he is still stock 40 hp. last summer on river i wanna say i ran it empty with a faster prop and it was maybe 43?
