Homemade Rod Racks

With the lake covered in ice I've had some time to get a few things done on the boat.... With rigging season approaching I wanted a way to keep my rods neat and untangled in the boat. I also wanted to be able to keep the rods on the racks and be able to lift the hole thing off the boat and hang from the ceiling in the garage above the boat when I was not rigging. I also wanted to be able to break down the hole set up and be able to throw it in storage of the boat if needed.So I built my own set rod racks that fit my boat and also my needs without breaking the bank.

How did you attach it to the boat? I see the base with the pin in it, but what does it look like with the rack off?
Looks like a neat idea.

A black pipe floor flange with a 6 inch threaded nipple hand tight. So I can pull the pin, lift off the holders and unscrew the nipple and all that's left on the boat is just the floor flange.

That looks real nice.

We need more Pictures! Something to look at before the lakes freeze again and I can't get to the lake now anyway!!!!

LOL I have two homemade rod holders on the back of my boat that use that flange. My holders are for when you fishing, not storing. I have an 18" pipe with angle iron welded at 90* across the top and a driftmaster holder on each side. I used the round plastic tightening knobs on the DM to replace the wing nut, (someone had posted that idea on here as well)

I'm in the process of changing out the bolts that come on the hi-teks with a knob and threaded stud, they only have 2 or 3 of the ones I need each time I go in to Westlake Ace Hardware. Works like a charm and one day I won't have to worry about having a wrench.

I sure like not having to use a wrench who the Tite-Lok Widow Makers. Dillon when ever you are ready you can design and fabricate me some transport racks for the Ranger. Dual console makes it tough to figure out a way to carry rods while on the water and off.

Put them to test yesterday, down the road and on the water. pulling the rods off and putting the back on took no time at all and nothing was tangled and the passenger still had plenty of room, and all my storage doors opened and was able to pull stuff out with no problems. While fishing I unpinned and pulled the front piece off and left the long center piece pinned to the back piece and let it rest on the floor, everything was out of the way while rigging. So far I am pleased with my low budget build.
