I was wondering why I could only choose 455 or 262 for the si frequency.... I had never heard of the 262, I thought it was supposed to be 800. Anyway, there are several transducer options--do not pick the regular side scan --make sure your option is hi-def side scan . That solved my problem. ;)
I am still learning my new hb unit and not seeing the structure that i know is there cause i put it.Was wondering what does the diffrence in frequncies do for the image.And if i change the ducer settings will this help in finding structure cause the first two times i used it i really was'nt seeing any structure at all?
Frequency choice is dependent on what task you are doing at the time...
I use the 455kHz to find new structure because the image will be brighter out to the edges of the display...
Then I will put a waypoint on the interesting stuff and re-position the boat to rescan that interesting item with the 800kHz because the image will be sharper to help descern what that interesting item might be...
The 455kHz will "see" farther out to the sides...but the image will be a little fuzzy...
The 800kHz will not "see" as far out to the sides...but the image will be crisper...

Find a known brushpile and throw a marker buoy on it...
Position the boat to scan by the brush at about 10ft from the buoy...
Make 1 setting change per trip by the brush to see the effects of the 1 single setting change...
(Scan from same direction each time to minimize variables) ...
*Set the Image frequency to 800kHz under the Sonar tab ...
*Set the Beam frequency to 200kHz under the Sonar tab...(the chart scroll rate will speed up somewhat)..
*Open the SI Xpress menu...
*Set the SI range to 50-60ft both sides...
*Set the Chart speed to match boat speed...1mph-chart speed 1...2mph-chart speed 2 ... Etc
*Open the SI Enhance menu and raise or lower the brightness of the display to your liking...
*Increase the SI contrast untill the image shows graininess-then back off Contrast 1 or 2 clicks..
*Increase Sharpness to make fish echoes pop out in the image...Set to Off for just brush scanning ...
*Experiment with Pallete choices for the overhead lighting conditions of the time...(I like Inverse or green for sunny days)..
Then re-position the boat to scan by the brush at about 30ft from the buoy...
*Set the Image frequency to 455kHz under the Sonar tab ...
*Use same settings changes as above in the 455kHz frequency ...
Even better...take screenshots of brush in each setting pass and take notes of what setting you changed for that pass..
Study those screenshots when you get home (on the unit and in the PC)..so you can really "study" the effects of the changes without distractions of boat control ...
Leave the rods at home so you're not tempted to fish during "class time"...
Post some of those screenshots here so we can see if there may be some anomalies in your setup...
