they got it up and working......

Thanks for the update. Do you guys think the Spring melt will effect anything? If I recall, a couple of years ago, they opened the gates at Morganza into the Basin. That was some serious water coming down. I don't know much about this, just wondering. Thanks.
don't understand any of it either....but there's ALOT of snow to melt and there will be lots of water this year.....that's good as i see it ....brings new bait and fish and water....just love the water....just hope it stays tween the levies......
High water during spawning time is great for the fish...allows them to get back in the woods and do their thing without being caught. Should be a great year in da basin once everything settles.
All the Mississippi and Ohio River gauges above Cairo and New Madrid are falling, so the water should be fairly low prior to the big snow melt, so I am not expecting a huge rise this year. I hope we can get the Atchafalaya at Butte La Rose to 16-17 this spring, as this is great for the fish and crawfish, and the sportsman as the fish react to the fall! I am not hearing anybody talk about a major flood this year, which is what it would take to require the floodgate to be opened as referenced above, it has only happened twice, 1976 and 2011, so it takes historic levels to get the river that high. I also wish that we could get the gauge in Bayou Fusilier working, as it gives us a day or two indication of water coming from the north before it affects pelba.
Wonder if the muddy water got to north PelbA yet??
Mud, top to bottom, today, Wednesday. Only clear water was in the bar pits, where they were not biting : (
The public landing is all lillies. You can walk on them.
depends on how tightly they are packed in.....if it is loose, like it was Tuesday, you can do this.....back the boat in far enough that you can climb in it....crank the motor and trim it up high......throttle up and turn the motor left & right and that will clear a temporary hole big enuf to get it off the trailer......coming back in from fishing do this....trim your motor up high and go in circles and that will clear you a hole to get to the bank....after you have backed your trailer up, the hole will probably have filled in....again, while you have the nose of the boat against the bank, trim up high and sweep left & right.....works pretty good....there is no way to keep it from getting on your trailer....
course, you can always launch at Magee's.....
You're right Bruce. They seem to keep their landing clear all the time. Good post about launching and loading in the mess though.Quote:

Some times you can back up until you can start your motor and wheel wash a good hole. Probably won't work if your boat is so light it floats to soon. It has to be tight against the trailer so you can turn the motor back and forth to push them back. Sometimes it's a real fight if the wind is against you and blowing them back as fast as you push them back.
I fished Henderson today, I went North and south past the pontoon bridge and it was muddy in both directions. There was a current at the bridge.
That sums it up, muddy top to bottom!! Did manage to find beautiful water in the Pitts as Rick said but not a single bite!! And if my new fish finder is right water temp range between 58/63!!!
To load the boat back on the trailer, I usually just back minimal trailer into the water,
(just enough that very little of the end of the boards are in the water and the wheels and axle are not in the water to have lilies pile up on them)
I then load the boat as far as it will go on the trailer, then I winch it the rest of the way onto the trailer.
What this does is not allow the lilies to be mashed/drug between the boat and boards.
Do you think introducing weevils will help?
Good post PatB, very helpful. Thanks.
We fish shallow and deep! Wasn't the best day by no means!! Almost had white caps with the winds we had!! I have no doubt the fish is there, they always are!! I WILL BE BACK!!
12.67 ft today and leveling off......
Good current at poontoon bridge and river will fall a ft buy sat am, looking good!!!!
Depends on the gates on the north in, if they don't open it should not affect the drop if they do open it will affect the drop!
This time of year the gates are normally open, so rainwater affects Henderson quickly. On a related note, Cairo is predicted near flood stage, so we should have a fairly large rise coming, about 21 days out. The prediction for the crest still hasn't been given, so tough to tell how long it will last. The upper Mississippi is not predicted to go as high, so we should not get abnormally high water.
Weird how Pelba is still showing a steady rise while the Atchafalaya is steady falling. Are they pumping the water into the North end or what? I'm confused (normal).
Yes, there is an opening for boats close to the bank on the right side. I have caught my share tied up there.
still rising......I love it....link:
