well, actually not a rumor. I know a fella that he and another guy caught 57 yesterday. No big fish, just smallish keepers. Think I'd have thrown bout half of them back from the pic I saw

My fishing partner always says, "if they have two eyeballs and an arse they a keeper!"
I know for a fact some good ones are being caught right now
Shhhhhh
SHHH_ _ . I BEEN SO SICK I AHVEN'T EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT FISHING . BUT AS I FEEL BETTER I AM SURE THINKING ABOUT THEM . THE FLU IS A SON OF A GUN . IT WILL KICK YOUR BUTT . HOPEFULLY IF MY WIFE ALLOWS ME I WILL GET OUT BEFORE THE WEEK ENDS . ONLY BEEN TO THE MAIL BOX TWICE TODAY I DROVE TO TOWN . THAT IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT . I WOULD LIKE A LOCATION MORE THAN A NUMBER . :Rofl
What defines a smallish Barnett fish exactly?
8-9 inchers is to small to keep for me. IF they ain;t biting real good and I'm low of filets, I'll keep a 10 incher all day long
I did see 4 boats up in a deep hole off the river Sunday. Kinda made me wonder if I shoulda stopped and checked things out. Real nice deep hole that has a long channel back to one of the places I've caught them spawning
If you can get 2 fillets that will fit in a bisquit its a keeper.
A fellow told me once that if you held him up to the light and read the news paper trough it . It was too small . That was below the spillway . How far up river ?
Couple to 3 miles
Left or right side . Lol
Like women gossiping at a beauty shoppe.. Lol
my dad was the town Barber in Newton when I was a kid. Men are ALOT worse than women bout gossiping
Lol.. Telephone, telegraph, telebarber. Ha. Anytime you want to know what's going on in the delta hunting/fishing related just go to my barber. Lol
If y'all can keep 8 or 9 inch crappie where you fish, they sure are fine cooked whole. That is headless and scaled of course. Lol
Here's the pic he sent me. Some ain't to bad sizewiseAttachment 151565
There was another rumor last year, started by a bigfeets chaser, that there were going to be Big Four sized slabs jumping in the boat this year on Barnett!
THEY ARE THERE IF YOU CAN FIND THEM . JUST FOLLOW WTHE REBAR .:Rofl
I will say this, I think Barnett is on an upswing in average size and the big four are in a downswing cycle. That being said the Rez has got a lot of ground to make up before it can be considered any where near as good a 'Nader or Sardis.
I don't know. Last year I weighed several 20 fish Sardis limits and never had one exceed 1.5 pound average. I've already seen one 15 fish limit exceed 1.8 pound average this year. And I'm talking the first 15 or 20 fish, no culling.
Granted, this isn't a lot of data to go on.
No more than i have fish the north lakes . I know they got monsters . And the fish seem to be a different color kinda , beautiful . I had days at barnett where i would catch 20 first right at 2 pounds or at least i kept 20 that size in one day and the i have caught a hundred the next day and 0 would weight a pound . And yes i am parcel to my lake , who isn't ? I might have gotten a quarter of that lake fished and marked . And i still am learning . I am still looking for that 3 pounder . I have seen some but haven't quite got there yet . . Ps i am surprised there is still any fish up there with the whack'em stack'm team up there . Lol
Yes . At the right time you seem to find them all together . To get those 20 i may have caught 75 . I am a little choicey with mine than most . Last year in march . You know anything is possible .
funny how some folks just can't believe that barnett has some big fish in it
Dink hole
No. I thought he was saying he caught a 40 pound stringer of 20 fish without culling. I know there are SOME big fish in it. I'll even go as far as saying there are a lot of fish in it.
To what ATM said about sardis (although I didn't weigh them) in one place I fished for 4 months out of each15 fish limit I would have from 3 to 6 16"fish in the bunch. It was crazy.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.... Hands down..Barnett is the best body of water in the state. Structure deep and shallow, any kind of ledge you want with structure, flats, a deep river.. And water level that don't fructuate but 6 inches now( 1.5' in the past)
Only thing the corps lakes have that Barnett don't is a biologist and management... Put a slot on Barnett and enforce it... 5 years from now it'll be the best lake in the state.
Everyone hates it because you have to Learn it to be successful consistently on it. It is the hardest lake to consistently stay on BIG fish at.
The corp lakes are stocked and have had years of keeping +12" fish... Therefore making it easier to catch "cookie cutter" fish (fish the same size) from year to year.
I agree with both sides on this one, now is the time of year ( if you know where to fish) you can catch some monsters out of Barnett. We have caught some really good fish down there in Feb and on through the spawn, I believe if I am not wrong that one Feb a few years ago Driskoll and his partner weight a 7 fish limit in the upper 15 pnd range, someone can research this if they want to but it was a huge stringer, with that being said I have never caught a stringer of 20 anywhere anytime that would compare to some of the 20 fish stringers I have put together at Grenada, I cant speak for Sardis or Enid or Butla because I haven't fished them much, btw I hope that in the next few weeks we can show you some of those small dinks that Barnett has in it, :)
Ever thought Those tourist spend big $$ in your towns and may contribute to the funding it takes to research and manage the big 4? Y'all complain about it.. I don't mind it.. I'm not a greedy person.. I would love to see it on Barnett. Until I see it otherwise.. I say the folks that do the most damage on lakes are the local people... We have a few out of state come to Barnett. They catch fish. But in most cases it's the local fisherman that bends the rules.
If I could change Barnett.. I'd put a 12" slot to start. Then in time I'd do limits as needed, and most of all I'd put the enforcement there needed and make 100% of the fishing related citations go directly back into the MDWFP to keep improving these places.
Locals do hurt a lake i agree but when u drive through a camp ground and c all the campers with deep freezers sitting outside and in the back of their truck i bet they aint haulin ice cream. And it would b nice if the money from any citation went to the MDWFP but they dont get any of it. Any citation given the money from it goes to the county in which it was written.
This argument seems to come up every six months....just saying.......nobody ever wins....its like fords are better than chevy and vice versa....everybody likes their favorite lake the best, everybody likes what fishfinder they have the best, everybody likes their dog the best....it's just how it is.
