New word record - Redear
By: Kellen » February 17th, 2014, 1:31 pm
Lake Havasu does it again, it looks like the redear sunfish world record was broken again there yesterday with a 5.8 pounder.
The previous record was set on May 2nd, 2011 and weighed 5.55 pounds, also at Havasu.
Again, the quaggas are good for something. Feeding giant redears.

More big Havasu redears that show the evolution in size;
4 pound 13 ouncer caught in June of 2012
The 5.55 pounder caught in May of 2011 that has stood as the world record for the last few year
And then here is a pic of a redear Mike Phua caught while practicing for an FLW Bass tournament last March at Havasu. He said it weighed 5.7-5.9 pounds on the handheld scale in the boat. But I don't think they ever got it on the right scale for consideration for any records at the time.

Havasu is the redear capital of the world right now. We might see a 6 pounder this spring.

Monster! I was fishing in Yuma and a guy came up to us on the canal where we were fishing and said you want to see a big bluegill were like sure. I figured he had a nice one but then he pulled out a dinner plate gill. Biggest bluegill I ever seen. I love Arizona hands down the best place I ever fished.

:yikes WOW!!! ---- Bluegill Steaks

-
Holy smokes!! Those are some bull gills!

One that looked like that came from the ditches in West Tn along the Hatchie river. My Step dads first cousin had it mounted. Laying on a dinner plate it covered the while plate. But it only weighed 2 lb 15 oz. Fish did not have any thickness to it. Fred always brought in hundreds of big crappie and gills on this trips to Hwy 64 and the Hatchie river. 35.243016° -88.921624° And stupid me never fished there with him. And have no ideal if he went down river or up river. But around 1975 he was bringing fish in that was unreal.

If they can get that big clear across this great nation, folks will quit fishing for everything else! Can you imagine that dude turning sideways on an ultralite setup?
-
Even the smaller one's put up a fight, but that!
-
The smaller one's fight good, but that!
-
Those in IL have no fear!!!!!!!! I cannot imagine that size!
-
Whoa!
I would probably scream like a little girl if I saw a bluegill of that size on the end of my line.
-
Pound for pound the Strongest fighting fish I've hooked into (freshwater)! Awesome catches! I Will be hitting up Havasu this spring/summer!!!
-
My younger brother fishes Havasu. He lives in Cali as I used to. We used to pull big gills out of the lakes all the time. Now he pulls out big bass.
-
I just cant even imagine.. Of course shellcrackers only get but so big in some areas of the country but wow. That fish would eat my 2 pound shellcrackers. Mind blown.. poof
-
I'd love to get one over 2lbs... Wow
-
