does anybody know if east fork is ice free. planning on going friday if possible.
My guess is it's locked up solid, end to end. If I get a chance I'll run over and take a look later in the week.
Better go further south. Gonna need an auger and a shack to fish EF.
Thx crappiemax
I saw on a Indiana post that Brookville Lake has 12" of ice now, so I imagine EFL wont be much different.
Bassky
A buddy of mine drilled some holes at Grant Lake last Saturday and he said he had 9" over there.
Did he catch any fish ? I was thinking of that place as it might be free of ice & fishable before these rivers tribs get straightnened out.

plus some 4" gills
eastfork had one open spot towards the middle of it last weekend. All the geese where on it. The rest was locked up with lots of soft spots. I was looking out from the long rock wall towards the boars head ramp.
I drove across the dam tonight after work. It's ice as far as the eye could see. There may have been a hole out there in the middle but it was hard to tell for sure. There was a little thawing around the edges but not too much. With the weather cooling again next week I think its going to be at least a few more weeks before we can float a boat out there.
2/19/14 speck texted me this pic from EFhttp://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...964AF079ED.jpg
id kinda like to see what it looks like today...

it's a definite improvement from earlier in the week but still along way to go. Only open water was out from the dam. We need some days & NIGHTS above freezing.
Nice pic James. I long for those days.
Good looking boat.
C-max.......shes a little older, got some dings and scrapes, and needs carpet desperately...... But she runs good and floats........ Hopefully it opens up enough to run it around a little and try out the new trolling motor ( old TM in that pic ) before Bama...... I dont want to drive all that way with out a "test run"...... All this melts looks like the stop sign bite maybe on......

I was thinking the same thing this morning when I saw the lake was up 10' in the last 2 days. Plenty of room to run a boat if you get desperate but not much room to fish. It may open up a little more in the next week.
I looked at the 10-day forecast ( http://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...+OH+45202:4:US )
53 Thurs, 53 Fri, 51 on Sunday, high 50s next Monday(3/10)
If that forecast holds, is it reasonable to expect that next Monday I could launch a boat at Tate or North Shore Ramp and be able to get out, or will it still be iced in? Interested in opinions.
Which one is the Tate ramp?
Is the North Shore the Afton Ramp? (by Boarshead)
Yeah. I think I got my ramp names mixed up. I almost always launch at the Afton Ramp (after buying minnows at Boarshead). I think I saw it called the North Shore Ramp on one of the maps. Really any ramp would do. I've launched at the dam before too. I just didn't want to go out there and find out there's still ice on > 50% of the lake. I know no one has a crystal ball as to when ice out will be but am looking to get some opinions more educated than my own.
mbk.
I live about 10 minutes from the dam ramp. I'll swing by and take a peek in the next few days at the dam ramp.
Last weekend it was still pretty ice over and these temps haven't been good.
still iced in as of last sunday....... say next week it will be on!!!!
Thanks for the update...
It's supposed to be in the low 60s Monday and Tuesday. But, based upon what I've heard - I doubt that 1 weekend of 50s temps is going to clear the lake. So, next Monday at EF is probably a bit too soon for me. I think I'll bide my time another week with stocked trout.
Was over at the lake yesterday -sunday main lake is clear some ice still in some coves, the Boars head ramp cove still had ice on it......but we got thru it maybe inch or two thick......bite was s--l--o--w
Its gonna be very cold Thursday morning but I think im gonna head over to the lake. Off work and really wanting to get on the water. I'll let y'all know how it is.
We got on the lake around 10:30am and off around 4:30pm, just a little bit of ice in the coves in the morning, but I bet its gone now. Crappie were slow to bite, marked most fish 20 to 30ft and deeper, water temp got to 40.8 in coves and 38 on main lake. Thanks Crappiemax for the help with Ef, the new boat worked well, but according to my Wife is too fast! this was the first time I was on Ef, it is a beautifull lake and I am sure I will be back when the bite starts.
Glad to have helped. I wish I could have joined you.
I'm hoping to make it out Saturday.
