I've not fished the "chick" a ton and there's many good lakes in TN but, I will say that the crappie on the "chick" are very healthy.
If it does I think that Hunter boy will catch it. He has been tearing them up over there. :)
I think we will see an abundance of Big crappie show up this year. State record I don't know. Maybe a couple more years down the road.
You won't see anything within 8 oz of the state record.
White Crappie 5.1 caught 1968 45 yrs ago Black 4.4 caught 1985 28 yrs ago.
As numerous and healthy as the crappie were on the "Chick" last year I seldom heard or read reports of crappie over 3 pounds. I wish more people would release those 13-14 inch crappie to grow a little larger then we might see some approaching 4 pounds.
If they are a tarp I let them go!!!!!!!!!
What is the TARP minimum?
I have caught tens of thousand of crappie and i have to date 1 crappie that went 3lbs. It came from Loudon. I have caught thousands on chic and by an far they are the healthiest on avg i see. but no 3 lbers for me.
I have been fortunate to boat several 3lb slabs most from Lake Oconee, Ga a hidden gem. My home lake is Douglas never caught a 3 there. Ky/ Barkley we caught some 3 plus in the 90's you could load the boat cork and fly fishing there. 45 yrs is a long time since the state record was caught are they not getting that big anymore or maybe chemicals in water are shorting there life span.:dono
We caught 2- 16" last spring full of eggs that were close to 2.5lbs. We fished 3 days on the Chick and had a blast!
I know of a 3.2 pound black crappie caught last March on the "Chick" because it beat my 2.6 pound white crappie that was leading a contest at the time at a local tackle shop. :banghead
