try vinegar works great for me
mr clean original magic eraser. Works like a charm.
It may be the totally wrong way to do it but I sand all mine with 1000 grit when they get nasty. Takes the top layer off but don't leave scratches
Dawn dish washing soap and warm water. Light scrubbing with bottle brush.
WD-40!!! let set for 4-8 hrs wipe off with cloth !!! spray on again wipe it off with a paper towel!!!! Then a light coat of REM oil(walmart)!! let the Rem oil soak in ready to go fishing!!
The absolute best method I've discovered was Brillo / SOS soap pads. The amount of cork that is removed is so miniscule you can't even measure it, yet the soap in the pads cleans the cork handles like new.
409 works pretty good
Walmart, dollar store or any place with home cleaning supplies should have the magic eraser.
Heres se a link for u40.

I use a scotchbrite pad and dishwashing detergent. Like brand new. Never sealed after.
You can get the mr clean magic eraser pads at almost any store... its in the cleaning supplies section.
If you LIGHTLY run it up and down your cork a few times without scrubbing too hard you will not have to re-seal with u40. If you scrub the heck out of it, use sand paper, a stiff tooth brush, tooth paste, or a rough cleaning pad you will take off the outer layer and need to reseal it. If you do not reseal it, the oils from your hands will get into the cork and eat away at it and you'll start losing small chunks of cork. If you are cleaning up a $40 rod then I wouldn't even worry about sealing the cork, but if you are cleaning a $100+ rod I would think you would want to protect your investment and seal it up.
Magic eraser works awesome! Doesn't damage cork.
