Running a tad bit smaller than usual , but the numbers are there. Got a nice white perch too. Bee look me up if you are going to be down this way.

Went back tonight. They are all over an ugly hair jig I whipped up on the bench. I'd be happy to share it is there is enough interest/ response here.

Color me impressed.... Those are some beautiful crappie.

Paul you look like that stringer is heavy. Nice
-
Very nice. All in same spot?
-
They moved about 20 yards over the course of 3 hours. That is just a sample. The night before we never moved from the first hot holes. Even called in the nearby group to join in the action. It will be over in a few days and they will move back into the basin and spread out a bit. Thanks guys.

Was wondering when the spawn is up north on these lakes that freeze over.
-
Mid to late May depending on the water body. We don't fish the spawn. Too many other bigger species are peaking then in the Estuaries. Would be like "shooting fish in a barrel" though.
-
Yea. Know what you mean. Most years I have all the crappie I need and start bass fishing.
-
WOW! Very nice stringer! That had to be a blast! :ThumbsUp
-
Nice mess fish there Paul........ :)

Is love to see that jig you tied up :). Very nice mess of fish!

Just happened to check back in , I call it fire pumpkin. It is 1/16" oz orange head tied with calf tail hair. The ones that did all the damage were yellow over orange, but I don't think the color made a lot of difference. It has been out fishing my guests who are using traditional spoons almost 3:1. I hoped to do more experimenting with larger soft plastics, but it is had to put down what is really working.

Those Fire Pumpkins are nice, love the name too.

I never had much faith in the hair jigs as there seemed to be a lot of short strikes , the sink rate is too slow for the deep water, and they tend to freeze up when out too long. On a whim I tied a few in what could be termed "upsized" more in tune with a casting or , drifting, back trolling technique. I am now a believer. They definitely made a difference in the numbers. They however are not the answer for a tough bite. Pouring over the electroshocking catch data from the last 18 years trying to pick the next lake to "victimize" :biggrin
