O.K. I'm just going to guess that the ice will be off s-ville (to launch a boat) March 1st. What do you all think??? It is usually about the third week of feb. with a few exceptions, but I think it will be later this year. Let's hear your guesses.

As of today the high for the next 2 weeks is 32 degrees which takes us through the 20th of Feb. What will it take to get rid of the ice if it just get into the 40's after that. I'm going to say it will be closer to the 15th of March before the lake is ice free. If we happen to get a bunch of rain that will speed it up but not the way It looks now.
Jerry- you cant use "abouts" when guessing a date for ice off! Come on now! But according to my dream last night, ice out occured yesterday and I was yanking some crappies out! I will guess that I could launch a boat March 3rd from the Lone Point area. March 7th from Wilborn, Coal Shaft, Bo, and Whitley. And by gosh I hope my guesses are way late!!!
I will say today! Because you can launch at Lithia, you just cant get very far! Does that count and what do i win?
Foul, You cut a hole in the ice don't count. lol . I probably went out a little to far on my date the the average temp last march was 35 the usual temp is 44. So if we are anywhere near that it will be the end of march. You might be able to launch a boat before then but it could be a little scary.
Actually Lithia ramp is close enough to the aerators and recirculators they run to keep the marina open. Just have to fish the docks is all. Bet u could do it and not get run off right now lol
you cant fish the docks from a boat?
I'm in with clfarms1, no earlier than March 15 and if I have to give a "hard" date.........March 18. These old bones just don't feel springy yet!
They frown on the dock fishing boat or not unless u got a slip rented.
I'm saying April 1st. APRIL FOOLS
The way this winter is dragging on Im guessing July 29th.
Ok, here's my stupid ? for the year. The 'ville is the same as Carlyle as far as the corps. letting out water. IF the water level at Carlyle is at 445' and the lake freezes to lets say 6" thick ice. Then they drop the level to 443' as they're doing now. Will the ice lose its support and be easy to break? OR does the ice sink as the level drops? Like I said it's my dumb ? for the year!!!!!
The ice stays but the water drops below it, not safe.
I thinking this has to break soon and we will get some above average temps by the first of March, I'm guessing March 7th.
I knew that the way this winter was going, that starting this thread would get some results. The rest of you guys don't have anything better to do than I do. Come on warm weather.
At this rate. My guess is August 1st :). Someone kill the snowman please!
as long as it is out by may 17th for crappie camp
Amen on May 17th! This Saturday I will be @ Arthur seperating myself from my money, no matter what old man winter does!
AUGUST at this rate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened to all that talk not to long ago about when they drop the lake the Ice will just fall in and all melt away back up in the coves and such? Guess maybe somebody was right about the ice ceiling HMMM!
Im gonna bring my Auger and short poles to camp.
Holy Crap---I saw that in the long range forecast, it is supposed to get above freezing toward the end of the week. Come on thaw.
You can watch fishing shows so you still know what open water looks like!
I hope it doesn't hold on that long......If I were to quess I would say the first week in March. Here in western Illinois we have 12 inches of ice however the forecast is for temp in the 50's later this week. If we get some rain and wind it will be hard on the ice.
We've got wind today. Talked to a guy yesterday that fished yesterday morning, said just @ 2' of ice. Let the thaw begin!
If y'all would install a few ice eaters around the lake, wouldn't have this problem.
With all the water running in it surely will eat away at some of the ice.
I say march 22
Man--today will sure give a guy the itch. 55 sunny and no wind.
I'm saying March 8th @ 2 pm.......just about the same time I leave for a 3 day trip to Kentucky Lake. Can't wait.
I think that all of those earlier predictions are going to get pushed back about 3 weeks. I can't see a temp. above freezing for a long time. Just about to go nuts, or maybe I'm already there.
where are they predictin 8 to 20 inches of snow at? 5-7 at Shelbyville Sunday and 1-3 Monday less than a 1/4 inch on Sat.
Hearing it @ work bud, heard all kinds of predictions, guess it depends on where the storm line is when it hits. Personally I probably played into the "hype" on my last statement. Hope we get very little if any. Next week looks cold all week. Not much of a warm up until the 2nd week of March.
