What is everyone running for mounts for the 10"+ fish finder/GPS combos? I just got my 1159CI HD DI combo and a 1199CI HD SI combo today in the mail. Having a hard time deciding what to use to mount the head units with at the console and the bow. Ram mount, Balzout etc etc

Ya they are at the top of the list but the $170 a piece is pretty pricey!!
Save your money, the lost fuel efficiency will cost you more than enough in the weight and wind drag. :Rofl You ever see those helmets they wear in the Tour de France when doing time trials? They need to make them for those huge units.
Two awesome units :highfive!! Mount the 1199 in the dash like the Low was and the 1159 on the biggest ram mout they got in between them bad boy widow maker's
Sweet gotta go ballzout with those big units.
You just spent near 4000.00 for your units the two mounts will be well worth the extra money. Get one six inch for the console and a 12 for the front and you will be really happy that you did later down the road.
I have one of the ram mounts holding just a little 898 and i am not real impressed with it.

Check out Cisco Fishing Systems Sure-Lock. Walleye guys up north use them. I have an 1197 on a Ram mount and it will not hold the unit in rough water.
Those look like some great mounts also. Hard to decide what to go with.
We use Ram mounts at work, and they really don't hold up very well. The rubber part of the ball mount will separate from the steel base after a while.
The Sure-Lok by Cisco Systems looks like a well built mount. I don't like the price of them but may go with the Balzout mounting system.
Dang , I'm picking my boat up in the AM. It has the ram mount with a 1198 on it . I hope I like it.
Ive only had my ram's for a little over a season but i love em. They don't move an inch and they look just like they did the day i bought them but i have the 2" ball not the 1 1/2" that i see some people use. what ever you do just make sure they're on there good!!!!! not sure you want to test if they float :biggrin
My Ram mount didn't hold up. Got the Balzout mount and this thing will last a life time.
I have yet to buy one, but I was really impressed with the quality of the balzout. I think that mount would hold a big screen TV if ya wanted it to!
I also use ram mounts at work for communication displays in semi's.
The first time a driver overtightens them they are trashed. If taken care of
and having the proper size for the weight, they will work just fine.
We have inch and a half ram mounts in bulk and box trucks at work for "people net" an electronic log book program. Those units are about the size of a 800 series humminbird and the ram mount seems to hold them with no problems. These truck are in and out of the worst spots in rock quarries and coal mines everyday and have yet to have one break in the last year and half and nobody is easy on them either.

CrappieThumperMK got all my new graphs hooked up today after going to Bass Pro to watch Kevin's seminar. My Balzout mounts will be here Tuesday to finish it all up. Can't wait to get them on the water and see what all I have been missing.

Thanks Chris. Now we need some sun and wind to thaw this lake out so I can try them out. I have some before and after pics of the upgrade that I will post after the mounts get installed this week. Changed out the dash and bow panel to remove the 5" Lowrance units and go back to the stock Ranger look with out holes in the panels.
Got a 10" HDS on big Ram mount on front of Cat. Couldn't keep the things set. Take girlie plastic knob off Ram mount unless ya got gorilla hands. Put a couple washers on the threaded stub and put a HEX nut on it. Crank er down with a wrench and that sucker will stay. Harder to steal also.
Crappie_Express here is what I went with to try and secure these high dollar units. This one is 12" and I have a 6" version for the 1199 at the console. I will get some pics of it when I get it installed.

that looks pretty sweet. given it a good rough water test yet. Will that pivot flat on the deck so you can put boat cover on? Those big things on the front kill lots of bugs and hard on gas mileage. Seen one on another site, maybe Allison boats that telescopes straight up and down real easy. Gettin old, lazy and bad eyes, need all the help I can get. Think I seen some guys runnin them mounts at the Classic in Guntersville on TV.
I can take the arm off and unplug cables to the unit in about 10 -15 seconds. It will lay down if I needed to get the cover on in a big hurry but just as fast to go head and pull I off. I have a hard plastic two rifle gun case with padding that I am going to transport/store these in while not on the water. There are several guys on tv now that I see running these units. Brent Chapman is one I know for sure that uses them.
I just finished watching the bass master classic and seen the Randy Howell this years winner had a blue Balzout mount on his Triton. Works for him so surely good enough for me.

Catman I have been ready for a while. Beginning to think I was a jinx when I got these electronics. Been cold, windy, snowing and ice ever since. I would send them back of it would warm up.Quote:

Looking good your going to love them I set mine and don't move them till its time to go home.
Last year it was Beagle with his boat storage at truman now you with your new electronics. Next year no one can change or get anything new. We need normal temps for early spring.Quote:

Crappie-express it doesn't care if you do 70 on water or land tighten it down and it stays. I'll lay the one on the front deck flat for the ride home to keep bug cleanups down.
I am going to transport mine in a two rifle gun case. That way I can get the cover on the boat for travel.
