Now that is cool.
It is pretty wild seeing these things in the water. I was lucky enough to see several when I was in Florida about 10 years ago. Looks like the smaller one already has some old prop wounds down its back, which I have heard is sadly a pretty common problem with boats and manatees. I know in the areas where we were in Florida... the law required that you idle your boats (even for miles) while traveling the rivers and canals in Florida to help protect manatees from boat collisions and prop injury. Thanks for sharing.
how heavy of line do you use on them. and do you spider rig them or jig:biggrin
:yikes A sea cow, they were stacked up in the springs from the cold weather last week.
Slab, wait until one comes up along side of your boat and exhales and takes a fresh breath before swimming on and submerges.
Might give you a pucker seat.
I love manatees...especially with fries:biggrin!!!
Saw a couple while crappie fishing up the Kissimmee river last March with my uncle. Launched at the Okee-Tantie ramp & saw them upstream by the 1st lock/dam.
We went up there trying to get out of the wind and ended up seeing them swimming right off the back of the pontoon while were anchored. A great day for sightseeing but not so great for fishing.
Poor guy. Watching manatee play. Rough life!!
Jacques Cousteau did one of his shows on the Manatees in Blue Springs in Orange City when it was still a privately held property. His crew went to the river and collected Hyacinth and hand fed them. That would get you jail time now. They are great to watch. I'm with flycaster on the close encounters, they always catch you napping. A few coffee cups have gotten airborne when they come up unannounced boatside.
Slab, bet they taste like gator. What is the limit? I know only one for you, but what about other people?:biggrin
That is cool...
Very cool
