Looked at huckbee rods today need some input on.them
They are great rods. I own 4 Meat Dragga, 2 Dippin Sticks, and 2 Pullin Rods. The Meat Draggas and Pullin Rods are the Berries. Lots of backbone when fishing wood and buck bushes so you can turn their heads and get them out. Plus sensitive enough to fell the lightest bite. The Dipping Sticks have a real light tip and will break pretty easy, but they are light and work well flipping a light jig around standing timber and swimming the same size jig around wood. All the Huckabee Rods say the warranty will be voided if using braid. I love mine and are my go to rod.......Ranger
I have a Huckabee Dippin rod which I use with braid and am pleased with it. It is also my go to rod along with one of Lip Rippers custom rods. The Huckabees are a little pricey but then I am known to be a wee bit tight. No comment Ranger:biggrin
Yea I was looking at the meat draga and yea they.was a little pricey but sure like the backbone
Check out the heavy jigging rods from Ozark Rods. Arround 58 bucks and great rods. Also I believe Bonehead Tackle is working on a longer rod that, if anything like their 7' rod, it will be a AWESOME rod.
That's right Josh, BoneHead is working on a 10' Rod. I have been working with BoneHead for about 4 months getting it just right. I have a 10' Promo Rod and feels pretty good. We have made a few changes in it and it should be here soon. They will be Carbon Fiber Rods which is very strong, light, and sensitivity. They are coming and will be offered in both split handle cork and foam. EB has my promo rod as we speak and had been using it and is very impressed.....Ranger
I also have 4 of the Ozark Heavy Jigging Poles and they work well for several techniques. Great Client Rods...Ranger
The comment I made about the Huckabee Dippin Sticks having a lite tip and breaks easily I need to address more. I have never broke a tip on any of my Dippin Sticks ever. What I meant to state is it's lighter than either the Pullin Rod or Meat Draga and has a lighter tip. All three of these rods have a purpose in the techniques I fish. I am sorry if I have mislead anyone with the previous post. You will not find a lighter, sensitive, hand and arm friendly rod out there for the technique it's made for. If you have questions about techniques and the rod for it please give me a call......Ranger
Ranger where I get one....I looked at them at the tackle show....the meat dragga
Baitmasters in Wagoner has them I believe. Also Nabitac Claremore also has them if that fails send starfish a PM and tell him I sent you. Might be better just to send starfish a PM anyways.....Ranger
You will not be disappointed in that rod. There isn't another rod on the market that I have found to turn their head in thick cover and get them out. Just my opinion.
OK.I sent starfish a pm thanks ranger.....I.should have bought it while I.was talking to Todd at the show!!!!
The Tulsa show is Feb 14 - 16
The only rod to equal or beat the Huckabee dippin rod is one that LipRippers made for me for dipping. It is noticeably lighter weight and stiffer. My normal go to rod, though, is the Huckabee.
Yea that's what l liked the best was the back bone
The Huckabee Pullin Rod is a Beast Too!!!!!! Ranger
Ranger - I am afraid to show you my Liprippers rod cause you may hit me with an oar to get it. Heaven knows I'm an oar short. :Rofl
George I might look at your Lip Rippers Rod but the only way you're gonna get my Huckabee's from me is pry my cold frozen fingers from them. JUST SAYIN!!!!!! Ranger
Gonna be awhile yet Kent. If I was gonna get a rod today, I haven't found anything out there that to compare to a Huckabee. Just my opinion and we all have one. You get what you pay for as the old sayin goes. I have bought numerous rods before a Huckabee and that was money wasted. Again an opinion....Ranger
So which Huckabee Rod would a person use for dead sticking?
Probably Rangers after you pry his cold dead fingers off his rod
I like the Pullin Rod or the Meat Draga for dead stickin myself. The Pullin rod is med action and 11'. The Meat Draga is meg heavy and 10'. Both have lots of backbone and superior over anything I have ever fished. Again guys it's my opinion.....Ranger
What weight of jig heads do you use with either rod?
Depends on technique. When Pullin jigs I use 2-1/4oz or 2-5/16oz and the same when dead sticking down the bank. Have also used them as light as 1/16oz as well.......Ranger
Wow, I had no idea. Now I understand why those rods would be handy. Most rods can not handle 1/2 oz total weight unless they are a bass rod. Thanks
Like I said everyone has their likes and dislikes. For me it being able put big jigs and baits in the water during high winds and rough water and catching slab crappie. You can't do that with a wimpy rod that would not even make a good buggy whip. I use them, believe in them, and own all 3 models. Don't know what else to say except when most guys are hanging it up and putting the boat on the trailer due to to much rod action from weather conditions I am still putting them in the LW. Nothing is more unnatural than a bait flopping in the water up and down 6" to 10" from rod movement. Ok I am done....Ranger
Hey I like the way you tell it like it is. Never cared for mincing words. Your insight is very helpful!
Lol ranger convinced me me awhile ago my buddy is picking me one up in Tulsa!!!
Send starfish a PM
Hat55 - Invest in a Huckabee rod of your choice and don't look back. You will be glad you did. I just like teasing Ranger. Teasing is the best form of respect IMO:twocents
Hey Ken, do you have any newer items? I'm hoping to work that dippin rod to death very soon!
Where can a guy get a Huckabee rod? Dad broke his today so I told him I'd find out where to get one now. Tough rods, but the door won this round😂😂
What do you need a new tip. Grizzly Jig sales them but maybe if it's just a tip Ken may sake you one.
He is wanting a new one. That one was the 11ft and now he just wants a 10. Not sure how much of it he broke yet, just ask me where to get one since he'd bout that one from Todd's old store.
Got the meat dragga and it is awesome
PM Ken (starfish) and he will point you in the right direction for sure. Wish I had an extra one to let him use until he got his new one in.......Ranger
Thanks ranger. I did pm him late yesterday evening but haven't heard back yet. He's got a couple others to use so he will be okay till he can get one.
I finally got to use my new Huckabee Meat Dragga yesterday, I was impressed to say the least. The rod is very light and balanced. I fished with it for 7 hours dipping a jig in flooded buck brush and never got arm fatigue. I caught several fish deep in the brush and the rod had plenty of backbone to jerk them out. It will definitely be my go to rod for that technique from now on. Give Ken (starfish) a pm on here or call him at 918 629-9715.
