Boy that city dropped the ball. Funniest thing is TWC is in ATL
That's a wreck waiting to happen when it snows.... How bad did it get over there?
Nothing here. ATL didn't get the road trucks out til noon which is when schools were let out and work was closing. 285 shut down and people are still there from overnight. They got 2 inches of snow and ice
Attachment 149343We just got dusted , waiting for ite it to thaw out so the roads are safe.
My son lives in Kennesaw, just north of ATL. He had to leave his truck and walk home
man--that's just bad all the way around
It seems that several hundred kids had to spend the night on school busses last night, and many more spent the night at school. Someone needs to lose a job over that!
Cantore was somewhere in MS yesterday, didn't catch where, and he usually goes wherever they think the worst is going to be. Think he went back to ATL later tho. B-ham got hammered, great-grandaughter had to spend the night at pre-school. They called Leslie and said they only had enough food for b-fast and lunch, Daddy is going to walk 8 miles 1 way with stroller to get her. Good thing he runs 6 miles a day.
Am I wrong in thinking that even you guys in the deep south should be able to drive on 2in of snow and ice? I know there is no equipment down there for the bad weather but kids spending the night at school and people abandoning their vehicles over 2in? Just seem insane to me.
Well we sure can't drive on it and folks in Atlanta can't drive at all . we got like 2 inches on wind side but the roads were terrible . drove about 30 miles round trip to take my daughter home . I would have figured out how to get mine home . gotta love it . snow just makes us crazier down here . ya'll can keep the snow and ice . lol
can't say much for the rest down here--but i can drive in the stuff. Ice is tuff, hills are tuff, and accidents do happen- but it can be done. Worst one was coming from Alabama back to AR and when you crossed the bridge on I240 it was like you flipped a switch--solid ice from West Memphis to Texarkana--took 8hrs to get just the other side of Little Rock. What is bad are the other people--if it weren't for the ones that aren't used to the stuff it wouldn't be a problem.
Which bridge on I240?
The Weather Channel lost it's contract with Directv. Having to watch some other form of weather, I can't stand it either.
Just watched CNN. it was reported 24 hours early of what to expect as the front moved through the areas. Closings were to late when ordered. Our schools would have been closed the evening before it started.
Cities like Atlanta, Birmingham, Jackson and others don't have enough road supplies for what they are getting. They don't get this kind of weather often so they can't prepare for it. One city reported not seeing this kind of weather in 35 years.
all of em in ATL
I think it was more the ice that hurt us. A lot of he roads were frozen, and these peeps don't slow down they just keep on trucking.
I hauled the boat down I-55 with 2 inches of ice and snow a couple years. Have driven firetrucks in all kinds of conditions. Just have to slow down and anticipate...no sudden braking!
smart man
I think the main problem was untreated ice.
Untreated ice, and non-thinking, brainless retards behind the steering wheels. 1/4 of an inch of ice on the vehicles, doors frozen shut on the vehicles, and they still getting out to go to McDonalds to get breakfast. News reporter on the T.V. says stay home the roads are to dangerous to drive on, then complains the Dairy Queen is closed and he can't get a cup of coffee...Oh boy....
ATL doesn't have an I240, just Memphis.
They posted a weather advisory here on Monday....If you are going to travel in this weather ,take along a snow shovel, pair of boots, a blanket ,flashlight , weather radio , a bag of ice melt . They looked at me like I was an idiot , when I got on the bus ....
I've watched CNN most of the day while reloading. Boy, there has been a lot of finger pointing on who didn't do what in the ATL area. I like the way CNN pulls tapes up to show who didn't do their job right.
I want my Weather Channel back.
We a weather guy here gave a forecast and said there would be little or no precip well it dropped about 15 in. overnight, next the same guy was doing the weather forecast and a disgruntled viewer came on the set and decked Dave Brown knocked him out.
Hahaha
CNN report about noon monday, the guy is on the street with trolly rail behind him. Says most of the storm will pass to the south of ATL. But ATL will get 1 to 2 inches that can shut the city down. I've seen the tape some 6 times today. The mayor came on today saying, You keep showing pictures of the interstate system. That isn't my job, look at city streets, they are in good shape.
I talked to my step-granddaughter today, Once I got off the interstate yesterday I didn't have any problems getting home.
My son is a director at Kennesaw state university. Decision was made to close school at 11:00AM. 10,000 kids hit the streets plus all the banks and businesses closed at the same time. Can you imagine all the pile-ups at intersections? He parked his truck in a Kroger lot and walked home only to receive a call from his wife who was stuck in traffic about 2 miles from home. He walked to where she was, pushed autos around enough to get her in a parking lot then the walked back home together. He e-mailed me photos of the mess. It was awsome.
Watching now. CNN report, the great cover up from ATL.
Feel what way? Guy made a joke about a BCS championship in MO? Kinda confused here?
I don't go to the MO board so I missed the joke.
Have fun but Keep it civil guys
Didnt mean to ruffle any feathers guys was just joking around guess you all are a little more serious about football than i am.
Ain't nobody going anywhere on ice. 1/8 of an inch is all it takes. Snow on the other hand is like driving on a gravel road. Yet a lot of people out on the road can't afford tires so there on slicks. All it takes is a couple of them and its Over. I wouldn't want to see ice in memphis it would have a similar outcome. If you don't heed to warnings you will suffer. Even though media has a bunch of chicken littles sometimes they get it right.
