Didn't mean to hijack this thread.
Grizzly Jig does have the best choices and prices I bought from them a few times 2 years ago. Had a problem with a charge and called to straighten it out and two different people were very rude to me. I am still grudging.
Never had a problem with them and have bought from them a lot.
I am still pissed at Basspro for their refusal to handle a problem with their house brand megacast reel. I was in store and they would not help me because I bought the reel mail order. That decision has cost them a bundle over the years as I tend to shop elsewhere because of the bad feelings...............
The problem I had with Grizzly wasn't a big deal except the way they talked to me. They made the $ right. It was the Pinnacle rod sale they had, I think the regular price was about 18~20$ each or you could buy 4 for 50$. Online it wouldn't go through with the discount. I called and was instructed to go ahead and make the purchase and they would fix it somehow and I would just be charged the 50$. I got the rods and noticed I was charged for 4 individual rods, just exactly like I ordered them. I was not angry or rude myself but the first person told me they would refund the difference but it was not their fault it was mine. I kindly asked what I did wrong and she rudely transferred me to another person who didn't want to hear about it or explain anything except to tell me "you screwed up not us". I was about to explain that I liked the rods and was going to order 4 more and wanted to avoid the same mistake again, but I thought 'to hell with it'. So I have just been paying more at other places until I get over the case of the red azz. They might have been just having a bad day, but I hold a grudge.
CS- You D'Man!!! Note the advise from Scott about vise qrips.
Use spider lol and u don't have to mess with the wrench either
Been turning wrenches all my life, dont see a problem with it.
Let me first say I do not know what exact knob you purchased. If it is a plastic knob with metal insert and not a high quality machined knob it will eventually break. Some will last longer than others and there are a few decent knobs on the market. If you are trying to get them as tight as you do with a wrench, they will eventually come apart and on most knobs you will be left with a knurled rod that you have to have vise grips to grap ahold of. And if you do not get them tightened down enough, they rattle loose and the holder is flopping around on the bar. I have experminted with several knobs and most work well in the short run but have come back to bite me down the road. And it always seems to be at the worst moment!
I have found a good knob but even my cost is expensive. Guess I could offer them as an option as they would still be less expensive than the "spyder lol" (Spyder Loc) mentioned above.
Just my 2 cents, I am sure others have had a similar experience because I hear about it all the time.
I had another brand with wing nuts. Hand tightening never worked, they always worked loose. Eventually got to torquing it with some adjustable wrenches and pliars and still had problems. Met Scott and ordered my first set of hi teks. Been wrenching them for a few years now. No problems and never busted my knuckles. Are ya using the boxed end or the opened end?
The hiteks are just fine themselves, I love them. They are great rod holders and serve me well. When I get ready to order more I will once again buy them. I will be honest when it comes to fishing I sometimes get in a hurry (especially if the fish are biting) and do not want to take the time to pick up a wrench to adjust something, that is one reason. I just use an old adjustable wrench because I did not want to use one of my good ones (what few I have). So I guess a good wrench would have worked okay and probably eliminated some popped knuckles. It had nothing to do with the holder or bolts itself. But if you add in a careless fisherman and in a hurry, stuff happens lol. Scott I ordered some of the high dollar knobs that other people have been ordering. I got the idea here on the site. They are from McCaster Carr I think is the name. Trust me I kept the bolts that came with it and will keep them on hand, and in no way was I degrading the product. It is definitely high quality and well worth the money I spent, which in fact was cheaper than competition. When I get my boat back I will send you pictures to see if you can machine me something for my lighting as well.
