LOL, welcome to my world...snow and -3 to boot
Hang in there. Won't last forever. Here in central Indy ice is 6''+ on small ponds.
this is welcomed weather for us ice fisherman. past few years good hard water has been hard to come by. I live in Brookville and the lake has solid ice all the way to the dam. solid ice to the dam has only happened a handful of times in my life. I might have to punch some holes near the dam for some walleyes. the dnr gill nets them there in the spring and have reported a few around 17lbs in there nets. I have personally witnessed them releasing the fish back into the lake and they get a lot of fish 4lbs and up.
Hey Fool, how are ya? I got out Monday for some bulegills on the ice and we got several nice ones like this:

17 lbs would blow away our state record! Its 14 something
Hey 10 point nice gill, did you get your spider system worked out? There is a siminar at West Side Bait & Tackle next Saturday, a lot of good information will be shared. If you or anyone else is interested you can find more information at: http://www.indianaslabmasters.com/
Do they have a photo of that 17 pounder or are they just blowin' smoke...that's a mighty big eye for Indiana.
There is a learning curve to everything, stay with it and it will improve, think of it as another toolin the arsenal. Drove down to Franklin today, roads going down wern't the best but coming back were ok. How is your wife doing, everything work out ok there?
state record is 14+ a bass fisherman caught one a couple year ago on a spinner bait that was over 13lbs. if you hang around the mounds boat ramp in early april, when they are netting, you can watch them releasing the fish back into the lake. Brookville lake is used for stocking all the lakes in Indiana with walleye fry. my biggest is 8.6lbs and have seen fish with my own eyes that went 10lbs and 11.5lbs. as far as the officers getting a picture of the fish i don't know. i do know that the lake is capable of producing a fish that size.
Glad to hear everything went well and she is getting along. Look forward to seeing you next weekend.
Thanks for the info...I've got one hanging over my desk that's 32.5 inches, but no weight available on that one...LOL, I didn't catch it, my mother-in-law did. I have watched other guys land eyes over 10 pounds on the Kankakee, they're never on my line though...one day I'll hook one of those pigs, it's only a matter of time.
32.5 ! that's a biggun! if that fish was caught early in the year it would be 10lb or better. if you can handle the cold, now thru april is the prime time to catch one of those big ones.
weather is very cold for the next few days but things should start changing for the better soon. it will be time for morels before you know it. cant wait!!!
State Record walleye was caught in the river I fish all the time, the Kankakee...awesome for big bass, pike, gills and crappies and the great fight of the bowfin...occasionally a large eel is caught there too, saw one that was brought into a local baitshop that was a little over 3 feet long.
do you fish the Kankakee this time of year or does it freeze? the good thing about the tail waters here is it never freezes no mater how cold it gets because the water comes from the bottom of the lake. great spot for winter fishing open water. water stays around 45degrees.
too difficult for the type of vehicle I own to find a suitable place to park without getting stuck...soon enough, the snows will disappear and I'll be able to get back down to the river.
temps are supposed to warm into the fifties by next week!!! if you are not an ice fishermen then you may have to wait awhile before you can get a boat on the lake and wet a line.
I'm not an ice fisherman anymore, and it's just in the 30's here...I'm soooooooo ready for Spring and some nice 50+ degree days.
me too
aren t we all can you eat the sauger in the ohio river
