Fire pit

We are in the market for a fire pit to carry camping with us. I know they put out better heat than a hole in the ground. The son-in-law got this one a few years ago on clearance for $20. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Catalina-...5#.Ut8HJbRMHIU So I look it up and now the ad pops up on everything I look at, get it on my facebook and email. Our neighbor at Enid last year at spring camp n fish had one made from the tub of a washing machine with legs welded on. My son calls for me to help him install new washer and dryer. I get the old ones for scrap. Well dang, the washer tub is plastic so no good to me. So I take the dryer apart, the tub doesn't have a bottom, but will do good as a fire ring like this one. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded...727/204247561#

I use the outer rim off of a old tractor wheel here at the house....works great. Its about 12 in. high and 32 in. across

Cane cut the center out of a truck rim.I have one made from a combine rim,it's nice.

Just back in from the firepit. Filled it 3/4 full with small limbs. That pit put out some heat. I'll be looking for a tractor rim without a center.

Or get an old Dayton truck rim, no center. actually not that old, most of the container trailers have them. Better yet get two and tack together,would be like 18in. high x22dia.

You should use a ceramic flower pot they hold the heat

I bet this one would hold some heat.

Buy your own pot.

I got mine from a road construction crew, its basically a section of a 4ft diameter steel road culvert about 2 1/2ft wide. I painted it black with stove paint, looks great and it was cheap...free...and holds the heat and will last forever. Had a friend make me a metal grate so once I get a bed of coals ready, we just slide on the grate and slap on the steaks. Dual purpose

I plan to do that too.

Keep looking for an old washer with a steel tub. I have made them before. Welded it to an old tire rim. As long as weight and space aren't an issue they are hard to beat.

dang with all that stuff on the ground around it looks like it would be easy to catch something on fire. be careful and enjoy.

That's the good thing about a ring or pit. If you don't have leaves in it to fly off or popping wood you're good. It's not hard to find a good piece of expanded metal for a grate or lid. If you can beat the other scrapers to it.

Looks like pine straw to me. Cut that thing down LOL had to rake pine straw when I was a kid. I cut everyone down that I get the chance to. :Rofl

It is pine needles, got 18 acrees of pine trees, I'm so sick of cleaning out gutters from them things.

The best firepit I have seen was made out of a huge propane tank cut in half. It held heat like nothing I've ever seen.
