The old hangouts where we were catching everybodys favorite fish, the white perch, have dried up. We fished from sunup til noon around Bear Creek and at Hallmark Shores and only managed about 10 fish. It is a mystery to me where they run and hide, but I am sure one of you will find them and let us know. And I will do the same.
Got a 4 day golf weekend coming up so I will be off water for a few days, but will check in to see whats happening.

I absolutely love those white perch, but I often find huge schools, stay on them for long periods of time, and then arrive one day to find the cupboard completely bare!
I'm sure there are external factors at work (wind, temps, barometric pressure) coupled with relocations of the bait schools those fish depend on.
On Clarks Hill, they were an "every trip sure bet" until we got 5 inches of rain and buckets of mud and debris in the very creeks they had decided to spend their fall/winter.
But they are still there and still biting. I discovered this today when I spoke to a fisherman who told me he had a great trip recently but was catching them out of 45-50 ft of water! (And I was really shocked when he told me he had an awesome February last year loading em up in SEVENTY (70!) ft of water! :yikes No wonder I can't find em! I'm looking in the wrong places!! rotfl
Ray, I figure that it's the influx of all the rain we had, I hope to go again here the next couple days and I'll let you know. How did the water look in Bear Creek, what color was it? It did the same thing to me a while back when we went a day after a lot of rain, I only got a few. It seems to be a lot better few days after the rain.
I was on Little River, SC, Sunday and it had come down a couple feet. The water was muddy still. Then today the lake went up two feet overnight. Sounds like Little River is going to be spoiled for a while. Anybody have luck fishing in that muddy water? May go out MLK day. Wondering if I should concentrate on Soap Creek or in the main river at the Dorn Facility because of cleaner water?
Kpdpga, the mud from dry fork is flowing into soap. If you are after perch, you can find them at fishing village and wells creek. Some jumbo perch. Follow the birds.
Stay after em Ray, they will be close by maybe just a little deeper as said. Thanks for the report.
We went to the Hill yesterday. Found them shallow in Wells creek. Birds were really working a shallow pocket with southern exposure. Only managed 25 or so and one small striper. Caught nearly all of them on Berry spoons in 15-30 ft of water. Maybe they go shallow this time of year???
Don't give up Ray, get back out there and hunt them pesky critters down!

I talked to a friend who caught some Monday pushed up into water 25 ft deep or shallower. This a few days after hearing they were caught in 45 ft...so I guess what all this really means is, perch will be wherever you find em. I have a feeling that on a day without birds showing you where to fish, it just takes a lot of looking both shallow and deep to get on them. And perch can be one of the most difficult fish to see on a graph as they really love to hug the bottom. I've returned to an area I loaded up on perch previously and seen little to nothing down there, but as soon as a minnow or spoon hit the bottom, it was on.... and only after pulling a fish or two up did they suddenly "appear" on the graph.Quote:

Yup, they are still here. A friend went out yesterday and caught around 30 and some were really big. He was near the landing strip heading towards the old Weeds Landing fishing a long secondary point in 35 feet of water using jigging spoons and tuffie minnows. We plan to go either tomorrow or Friday, depends on the wind.
