Looks like the water is still rising......I know a fall produces fish but I have had some of my best luck there when the water was at 16 ft....

Either waiting for the fall for Henderson to really turn on or to reach 14' to get into Cow Island in time for the spawn.
cow island....heard a lot about that place...need to go...this is the year........

Do you think it will continue to rise with the snow melt up north?
Not sure what it will do over the next month or so, but the Butte LaRose gauge shows it starting to flatline and so does the Pontoon Bridge gauge. Butte LaRose forecast graph shows a foot drop by Saturday, so with no rain in the forecast, I would say we should start seeing a slow fall over the next few weeks. If I had to guess, these next 3-4 weeks should start to show some good fishing reports out of Henderson. Just my 2 cents.....
The river is on a slow fall, but a rise is coming.

Predicted Butte LaRose fall. I don't know how the Atchafalaya affects Henderson.

Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.... When the River falls, so does Henderson, until Henderson reaches roughly 9', which is the height of the locks which hold water in Henderson (just south of the Pontoon Bridge, before Catahoula). Now this doesn't take into account rainfall or the locks located on Bayou Courtableau. If the river rises, then Henderson also rises, flowing north. If the river falls, then Henderson falls, flowing south. If the locks on Bayou Courtableau are open and letting water through, and the River is also rising, then you have a very muddy lake, causing current from both directions. When the locks on Bayou Courtableau are closed, and the river is below 9', this is when you start to see that smooth 9' level in Henderson level off. This is what I have gathered from duck hunting Henderson over the past 15 years and talking to the older gentlemen that have been around way longer than that. I hope this helps some of you guys.....:ThumbsUp
OK....Here are where the locks are located....

With the River predicted to drop......you work backwards and this is what you find.....Henderson will do the same.
To me this is a super good analysis.
When you say "Henderson reaches roughly 9'" are you talking Pelba or Pontoon. Pelba is at 11.52 now and the Pontoon is at 7.73'. In a perfect world those would read the same. The datum for gauges has always been a source of confusion. You would think that someone would have established a uniform datum at least across a region. Looks like Pelba and Atchafalya River at Butte La Rose have the same datum. Only .2' difference right now.
And the Atchafalya River is influenced from the MS River. It Is why I keep a eye on the Ohio River to New Orleans.
I'm not sure where the datum points are, but I am talking about the Butte Larose gauge, which is consistent with the Pelba gauge.
I would think datum is MSL. I watch this one because the gauge is 30 ft. from my mail box.

At 21 feet it's on the driveway and a foot below the bridge. Front porch is at roughly at 48 ft.
Good post, thanks.
Look out folks.......it's falling....

It Also looks like the Corps is also trying to keep the runnoff moving to allow for the spring thaw... The last thing they want is a flood from a Levee breach---- I have always thought the Levees were to close to the rivers when they were built.. Even 100 yards on each side would contain Uncountable Billions of gallons during a major flood.
come on down.........about a 4" drop in 2 days.....I could detect a current yesterday....even tho it was against the wind........
