Was wondering which would be best for just plinking and maybe shooting a few tree rats when they get in my pears. The plain H001 or the H001T with the heavy octagon barrel. I know the H001T has the cool factor but looks like the other would be easier to handle. Haven't got to handle the T model yet, hope to find one soon.

My uncle bought my 11 yr old the plain one for his first rifle. He's had it a year and put many rounds through it. Fun to shoot and no complaints.
if your piggy bank will handle it look at a CZ452 American, the most accurate out of the box .22 i ever shot. got two of em..

Yep from my research thats what I have learned too but just don't think I want a bolt action 22 rifle, may change, don't know. Yep think the lever gun would go very well with my Ruger Single 6.Quote:

Got a 10/22 and like it fine just think I would like a "cowboy" rifle, think will just be fun. Ole Arthur has me in my legs and hips but not in my hands so think I will be able to handle the lever action.Quote:

Henry has the smoothest action of any lever gun made. Octagon barrel just looks better to me, been eyein me one fer a while now. Varmint model in 17HMR with fiber optic sites is awsome, wish they made it in .22
mr jim, you the first or one of the first that has said they have had a 10/22 and no problems. had one, but never another one. those things are finicky at best, at least mine was...yours being 30 years old could be why you have had no problems.....Quote:

Be aware that the rifle has a very low comb and you'll find that a good cheek weld is nearly impossible. You can't really put your head down and go at it. 10/22s are great, reliable rifles. But, they're semi-automatics. You have to clean them every now and then.
I learned to shoot on my grandmothers Remington model 34. Sweetest shooting .22 ever! Was purchased in 1936 and will be passed down to one of my sons.

I have a Remington Model 34.....I love it
That Henry is one heck of a gun. A farmer friend had one that he carried in the Rhino. His hot rod son threw it out somewhere. Didn't find it for two years. Ran over it with dual wheeled tractor while bush hogging. Blades didn't get it but the tires put a noticable right to left bend in the receiver and mashed the mag tube some. Pushed an aluminum rod down the mag tube, loaded it up and it's still shooting today. The bend makes getting on the sight a little difficult but she shoots true. Shoots as good as my Browning BL22.
I saw a good looking older Henry Lever 22 at the gun show saturday. Lots of marbling and wood grain. But the $1600 price tag sent me walking.

I have a Henry 45 long Colt. Man it shoots good. Bought my Grand daughter a 22lr Henry for Christmas she has already shot 4 boxes of shells through it, She is 13 and loves it. She also shoots my AR15, Going to buy all of the grand kids A Henry when they get 13 they are a great investment. and something that they will always remember getting it from Grand Dad. They also make a pump 22 almost bought one for me when I got her the her gun.

I use gunbot.net to keep an eye on reloading supplies. You can keep and eye on ammo too.
Our 3 year old granddaughter loves to shoot the 10-22 but a bit long for her. Walmart has a pink cricket with synthetic stock for $109. There was one at the show with wood stock and lots of grain showing in pink with a $215 price tag.
Gun shows are always over priced.
I probably have 1000 rounds of 22s all rem. or Winchester have had it for at least 20yrs used buy several boxes at a time soon as it warms going let grandsons have a ball plus they love to shoot that sks.
Going to Williams Bros. tomorrow to get some "rat" cheese so will make a stop at Phila. Pawn while Carol is at Tanks, may find a good buy.

Anyway I got the Henry for a few dollars less OTD than WM's was before taxes, thanks. I did pick up 2 boxes of 100 rd mimi mags at WM, Carol had to get 1 box, limit of 1. Looked at 3 H001's and 2 H001T's and this was the best looking wood, not great but does has some grain. Why WM in Phila. has 22's and the 2 in Meridian very seldom has any I don't understand. Goes good with my Single 6.

Steve, you did good, the grain looks great.
I don't know why one walmart sets a limit on ammo as they do. 1 there, 3 here, hard to find here. One store gets a lot and another store barely gets any.
May be able to see grain a little better here. Just something about walnut and steel I like.
