Wanting to upgrade my old trolling motor, is this really worth the money?

Yep.....I would get one with a longer shaft though....comes in handy when trolling in the wind and the front of the boat going up and down....can get motor deeper in the water. If your going to pull cranks I recommend a 24 volt 80 lb. thrust though. I love mine, don't know how I ever did without it.
"G"eezer hit the nail on the head!!!
G. You think I need a 24volt, 80lb? I'm just fishing out of a little 1652 G3

It's was most certainly worth the monie to me. I had it on my g3 and will have it on my bay series I'm looking at. I like being able to control the trolling motor from anywhere on the boat.:ThumbsUp
Smooth, you gonna pull cranks??
You will get a lot more run time with a 24 volt vs a 12v.
Then if you have room for the extra battery the 80 pound is the way to go, had a 55 on my first rig and had to have a kicker even with 2 batts in parralel.
It's tight back there with the gas tank, cranking battery, and trolling battery but I might be able to get another battery back there
Worth twice that price to me!
Put the second battery under the console if you have too
U won't need the longer shaft on that boat and I have the 80 on my 18x60 g3 pulls it 3mph which is great but to much thrust for spot lock jerks you around a lot
Get the link for sure
Ok. Someone explain exactly what "the link" is. The 80lb is $1550.
The link is just the next generation of the Ipilot, stores more waypoints and tracks in the system itself and can be connected to a Humminbird depth finder to store more and if you have a lakemasters card it will follow contours but rite now there isnt a card for the big 4.
if you dont want the link there is one for sale on here for 1200.00
yes
Worth every penny. Go with the 24 volt. Don't underestimate the longer shaft. I've cavitated the prop on a 60" shaft pulling cranks in rough seas. I believe that 80 lb is available in a 50 something inch shaft. Keep shopping though, you can beat that price.
I have the12 volt Terrova on my 16.5 ft Bass Tracker. It is worth every penny, I can't imagine fishing without it, especially when you are by yourself or have kids on board. I know I will get kick back when I say this, but the 24 volt would have been a waste of money for me. I mostly tight line, but also pull jigs. These motors have "Maximizer" circuitry in them which gives you very efficient battery drain. I have run mine 6 hours nonstop and was down only about 50%. I guess my boat is lighter than most because I seldom run more than 40% of the maximum speed. Wide open it will pull my boat about 6 or 7 MPH which is way faster than I ever need to go with the electric motor.
.
I also have the regular length shaft and I have it set up about a foot short of the maximum depth and it has never cavitated on me, but I don't fish in high wind and waves. That is a nightmare when you got 6 or 8 12ft. rods hanging off the front. I did get the universal transducer which made it easy to hook up the front DF. Oh, yea I strongly recommend the quick release mounting puck that Minnkota makes. It makes it a snap to remove your motor if you need to and greatly simplifies installation.
If you have 2 boats it is easy to move back and forth using the mounting pucks.
So, go with whatever you feel will suit your needs, but the Terrova is well worth the cost, whichever model you get
Ive got the 45 inch shaft never had it come out of the water yet and if your out in waves that big in a 16ft boat only 52in bottom I think it's time to come in
Smooth, I have the 55 with 54 in shaft on mine. It works great. With 2 group 27 batteries it will pull cranks on a decent day about 4 hrs. I usually run my big motor and just use the Terrova to steer with. No real strain that way on motor and will last a couple of days. If you want to pull with trolling motor only definatley get 80 /24 with at least 50 in shaft. I like the 55 on the lighter boat because I can run it a little slower when spider rigging. Have run a couple of boats about my size with 24's and seems they have a little more thrust at slower setting thus little faster on 1 or 2 setting. As far as the concept of the Terrova it's the best money you will spend. Made fishing a whole lot more enjoyable for me.
absolutely get the 80
I have the 55lb, 12 volt. I hooked up a pair of good batteries in parallel (put both under the console closer to the tm) and can pull cranks at1.5-1.9 mph for 6 hours and still have well over 50% juice left. The 55lb tm can be an issue when pulling into a good breeze, though. Makes it difficult to keep speeds up around 2mph. I would get the 80lb motor if I was gonna do it over.
PS....Well worth the money!!!
Do you have a storage compartment in the front that you can mount 2 batteries in? I've got a 1650 Express and i have 2 batteries in the front 1 for electronics and 1 for my 55 Maxxim.I have 2 batteries in the back 1 for accessories and 1 for cranking the big motor and 12 gal. fuel cell. The 2 up front help balance the ride and later I'm going with a Terrova 80 24v.
The batts in the front will do something else too, will act as a ballast and help with the bounce on windy days.
Had the 12 volt 55 lb power drive v2 and purchased the Ipilot link 80 while pulling cranks. The difference is daylight and dark unless you're only going to pull cranks for about 4 hours. If winds 5 to 10 only got about 2.5 to 3 hours against the wind.
Although the Lakemasrer maps aren't ready for the big four, I was told by a Hummingbird rep we may get Sardis and Enid in 2014. Grenada was iffy according to the HB rep.
