Natural fly pics

Thought about this while looking at one of skips posts. Has anyone ever posted a thread with pics of natural flys on it. One that we can reference and then maybe try to mimic? I know there is a ton of pictures on extension service websites and university sites. Used them when I took entomology in college.

I know there are 1000's of variations and colors or different flies, nymphs, larvae, etc, etc...but figured we could maybe put together some to reference. I have not looked for them to tie flies until now. I have looked for them in our peach orchard. lol. Although I tend to kill them when I find them out there! :biggrin

I have at time given out links to fly sites that have big data bases with lots of pics and recipes as well. FAOL is one of my favorites since then also have lessons on tying some of these patterns and start asa beginner to intermediate and then advanced. Good stuff! Also another one that has so many pics is Fly Tying Forum and you can look up patterns be name, type fish you after, even by what materials you have. I will link both here again. Huge amount of info.

It's where I learned to tie for the most part. I mean some help from a few guys, but I don't think there were any You Tube videos or such then, but in some ways I think this way is better because anyone an make a video and put it on there and not necessary be tying the best way. Have seen some that are just wrong and misleading guys that see them when they first start and then get bad habits with will not happen at FAOL type lessons.

You can tie any fly pattern on a jig head but some of them because of the jig head size might look weird.
