Today started pretty good today, had 7 keepers by 9 oclock this morning. But it slowed down after that, caught quite a few under the 10 in. minimum, but no good ones. My wife met me at noon at the lake, I caught 1 more good fish and she caught 1, which was the biggest fish of the day a 13 1/2 in. crappie. Enjoyed the day anyway. Was slow for everone else on the lake.

Great look'in catch. It was slow today for us too. We fished Lake Hamilton and never got a bite on the lower end of the lake where we normally fish. But, found some willing to go for a boat ride up Little Mazarn. Fortunately, the size on Hamilton is still running real good and healthy. My avid fishing neighbor cooked them for us this evening (seasoned baked/broiled with cheese on top) and they were about the best I've had in a long time.

What is the recipe for cooking that way? Jim
She said that all she did was use some olive oil, salt, pepper on the fillets (you could add any other kind of seasoning you wanted too). Put them on a broiling pan and baked till flakey at about 350. Then sprinkle with fresh grated parmesean cheese and broil till the cheese is melted. I think the key was using the broiling pan so the fish didn't cook in their own juices and watching it real close so that you don't over cook and dry out the fish too much. It was really tasty and I was told good for you.Quote:

I started Weight Watchers a few weeks back and it seems to be doing well for me. It's made me more conscious of what I'm eating and how the food is prepared. All in all, I haven't had to make too many changes, just have to consider it a little more before I put it in my mouth. I paid the initial membership fee and went to a few of the meetings (no longterm financial committment), learned what I wanted now I'm trying it on my own (time issues). With their Flex Plan you can eat whatever you want but understanding what you're eating has a value (the points) and that value is a plus or minus to your overall diet. I've made some adjustments (broiled instead of fried, potatos or pasta once a week instead of twice a day, etc.), started taking some vitamins, drinking more water (big time!!!) and it's making a difference. One thing that I was doing majorly wrong was not eating enough. Yep, not enough. I would maybe eat a breakfast, stuff myself for lunch at a buffet or cafe, then mostly skip supper. Big mistake, because it slowed my metabolism and cause my body to store fat. I am forcing myself to eat 3 squares a day with reasonable food and it's resulted in a definite increase in metabolism and how I feel in general. If I know that something is coming up that might not be the best for my overall diet (ie: all that deep fried crappie at crappie camp, lol.) I plan for it ahead of time, save my points to accommodate it. It turns it into a treat or privilege because I've earned it I know I'm going to enjoy it that much more and not take such simple things like that for granted.

I went on WW 3 yrs. ago online and it changed my eating habits for good. I lost 27 lbs. in 3 months and have kept it off by just having that awareness of the amount and type of food I eat. I eat properly on my work nights and am able to eat what I want when I am off. You will benefit for life from what you learned.Looking forward to seeing you at CC.:cool:
Thanks Coolarry!!! I really appreciate the support. I come from a family of very happily, round, short folk and so far I'm doing better than the average family member. However, WW has taught me enough that I know when I've, let's say, over-enduldged, which is okay as long as I prepare for it "and" make up for it (compensate or compromise for it) afterwards in order to maintain a desired level of healthiness. I'm not a health freak in the least, but I do desire to be around to take my furture grandkids crappie fishing. Both my sets of grandparents did not and I hope to do better because that is what all parents want for their children -- for them to fair better than they did. If that's not enough, I at least want to be crawling in my boat outlasting all you GREAT yahoos!!!
Know where I am going wrong. Got to get me some of them colorful rods and reels. Are those available locally or do you special order those frow far away? Do they come with that pretty figurine? Please let me know ASAP with Crappie Camp just days away. Wish to be on a level playing field with the locals.

Great story behind that picture. It is of my neighbor who LOVES to fish. I have been trying to be a mentor to her about crappie fishing. I didn't have clients that day, so we went out scouting around. The little trophy is a family heirloom, so to speak. Once or twice a year their family gets together and plays a card game call Pitch. They have tournaments that lasts for days. So much so that they rent an extra motel room just to play the card game in. I'm told they start playing as young as 8 o 9 years old. The winner gets the trophy. It has dophins on it because they do a "dolphin dance" to rub a winning hand in other's faces and the brass plaquard says something about "a chicken only being a bird" when someone is taking too long to bid, etc. This is the first time the trophy has left Missouri and the first time a girl has won it. So, she is taking the preciously coveted family heirloom on a year's jouney. Thusly, it has been fishing, they've taken pictures of it on a SeaDo, next to a BBQ grill doing a cookout, at a nightclub with a cigar, etc. for the whole extended family to see it's great adventure in Arkansas. I thought the story was so great, I just had to put it on my website. We all should have familial ties like that!!! What great fun!!!Quote:
