I will help anyone who fishes Nimrod help place brushpiles. I'm sure Slabbandit will too. Do we have any fishermen out there who regularly fish Nimrod? Who are intrested in building brushpiles and would like help? If so send us a PM.:D

I would love to go take a look at the lake. And I would be more than happy to do my fair share of the work. Just let me know something; me and probably Gooch would come over that way with boat and boo.
Lets discuss brush piles for a moment. I hear bamboo is the substance of choice. I can only "assume" switch cane" will work just as well? Also, is there a law in Ar against pvc condo's?
From my experience hardwoods like Persimmon work best. That Bamboo has been hit or miss and some never do much. I have done good in Bamboo a few times , but stick with wood these days when building new brushpiles. I only kept 10 this morning 8 to 10' deep. Score Persimmon 7, willow 1, Iornwood 1 , old stump 1 and boo 0 keepers. Also caught a few dinks off the Persimmon tops. The hardwoods like Oak sour and get better the second year. This has been my findings on Nimrod. I fished about 22 tops this morning . The wind was rough up here today , but it was still nice. I only fish jigs , minnows may catch more at times I just don't use them.:D Saw Slabbandit's brother-in-law spiderrigging with looked like jigs and minnows. He said it was real slow for him .
Do you have pretty good access to the persimmon? I'd like to try some of that. May need to look into a supply around here also. On the topic of the boo, we placed a mat less than a week ago in the river. Yesterday, I caught 40 or so crappie out of that spot with half being keepers. I just hope that it continues to perform after losing the foliage. There isn't that much cover to choose from at the depth they are holding, so maybe that has some influence.
It's odd but we caught fish off of some right off. Then the Bamboo went dead. We put out many bamboo condos last year. Some still produce fish, not as many or large as wood on the average.I placed some around stumps and it held more fish there. I have a bunch of Persimmon all reay to put out.
Just ask anyone with old pastures , most hate persimmons as they sprout all over their hay fields.
Slabbandit told me he had mixed results with bamboo also. Nimrod being so shallow horizontial cover seems to work better. The trees are easy to use. We both tried PVC with minimal results.
Here is a expanded sketch of our brushplies using persimmon trees. They are tied tighter together than example using copper or Aluminum wire .

Check out my condo's and tell me what you guys think. I put either 2 or 3 in one little spot... http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...02-06_1648.jpg
Bobberwatcher that is what I'm talkin bout! I have been wantin to do the same with bamboo. guessin the pvc does the same. love all the pics. need to get my stuff together and get some out there.
Those are some good looking condos and they will be there forever.
I disagree with the use of copper as a tie down. Throw a penny into your fish tank with all those fancy fish. They won't last long.
Nimrod, the only reason I can see to cut a persimion tree would be if it was a male and not bearing fruit. Man thats some good deer food and my new favorite tree, now that I know deer and crappie both love it.
We acutally paid 50 bucks for 200 persimions a couple of winters back and planted them arround all of our food plots along with some saw tooth oaks, crab apples, arkansas black apples, and granny smith apples. Should make for some good deer hunting and crappie condos in a few years for my 7 year old son
good reading here ,instead of using copper another thing is to have 1 of your telephone co friends get you a roll of spinner wire this will last forever when you drive down the road look up at the phone lines (it's the wire that is used to lash phone cable to the strand in the air) will not rust..
They look good to me. One thing you need to watch out for when using pvc is it can be very tough to impossible to see it on you fish finder.Quote:

Man you know I have the boo patch ready to go so just let me know when you want to get to work. We could kick out 4 some night next week in no time if you want to. You need to get some in the water at Norrell for your winter time fishing.Quote:

How is the bite at the lake? I was looking for a place to go this weekend...When I went to Harris Brake I was very dissapointed...
Been slow lately for me. Catching a few in brushpiles along the channel drops 10' and deeper. Might try a while tomarrow.
Hey NIMROD, Have you tried any of those newer persimmon tops yet? Debra and I went out a little while Sunday but it was just a little too windy on the main lake.
I noticed a lot of shad in the river channel at 10 to 14 feet deep with fish around them. I should have tried these instead of the shallower tops I fished. We didn't do any good but enjoyed getting out on the lake.
I've been working a lot and staying at my Sister's in L.R. Probably have to work this weekend too. We're getting pretty busy.
I noticed all the persimmons have lost their leaves already. We'll have to get together again after deer season and build some more tops.
Do y'all prefer leaves on or off?Quote:

Ceb ,I perfer to let the leaves fall off my trees first or cut them early so they fall off before using. The leaves will fall off anyway after a while. Don't want the tops too thick.:D
The Crappie are 10 to 13' right in the bottom of some of the new piles. I put out a couple today . I caught 5 nice fish and some dinks in one deep pile on the river. Did'nt catch anything but dinks in the lake.:DQuote:

The lake level is different in spring verses winter pool (345 msl spring 342 msl winter ) We have shallow water over most of the lake under 8' at 342 msl.The creeks and river is deeper to as much as 30 ' deep. I place some in shallow water at low pool 3' or 4 '. The deepest brushpiles now along river is 8' to 15' at low pool. I've had some slide off into 20' water. I find a bend and drop brush on the old river banks 8' to 13' deep. Don't like fishing over 12' unless I have to. The crappie at times will be buried up in my brushpiles right off the bottom. Since I fish all year I place them at all sorts of depths along channel drops. But for winter fishing I perfer 10' min. depth water. I know some fish 25' deep at times here in late winter. Our lake is mostly off color most of the time, but the main river gets real clear at times. We have even had to cast for crappie in March a couple of times .When spring gets close the fish will suspened over a brushpile in 10' of water. When they suspend over brush at 3' or less they are spooky when it's clear. I know I have'nt cleared up much on the subject. But you have to put out several different ways to stay on fish all year.
