It is an old river channel lake like Wolf just much wider. Water depth varies from 3 ft in the upper end to 30 ft in the middle. It does still have access to the Mississippi river on the lower end thrua chute so water level and the bite will depend greatly on the stage of the river. As long as you stay in the middle of the channel when on plane there should not be any logs to hit. If you decide to go throw the chute to Albermarle be very carefull because it is full of logs and stumps. You must idle with motor trimmed up and it stays shallow for a good ways.
Can be great are it could be terrible! !!!!!! It also has a lot of. GAR but not much of a problem this time of year. ..
What they said, it is either on like donkey kong or completely shut down. Don't be afraid to fish deep during the winter months. Chotard actually consist of 3 or 4 lakes, depending on the water levels, Chotard, Abermarel, Tennessee, and Airplane.
I fought the gar on a cold rainy day in February a couple years ago. Craziest thing I ever saw, was as bad with the gar as a day in July!
What about the quality of the crappie?? Big fish like nader and Sardis? Good Fish like Enid ? Or average fish like Wolf??
So Eagle is better than Chotard?????
Depends, some days. River has alot to do with it.
Eagle was very good the past 2 weeks
They both have good fish, the river stages has a lot do with which one to fish. They not as big as Grenada or Washington but you can come home home with a 1 1/2 lb average
Do they have any special length or creel limits on those lakes??
State regs
Thank ya
LA creel limit on Eagle.
you can keep 50 at Chotard. You can catch Specks and white crappie at Chotard, just depends on where you fish. Out in the middle, you'll catch the big old slab white crappie. Eagle is more of single poling for specks at a couple of the piers. Those specks at Eagle will average bout a pound n a half with some over 2 pounds. Chotard has some monster White crappie about that same size with some around 2 1/2-2 3/4 pounds
We caught a bunch of gar in chotard yesterday in 28' water! the pole would go down and you pick it up and half the minnow would be gone. this coming weekend has not 1 but 2 bass tourneys on Eagle lake on the same day. We got hung up twice coming out of Albermarle yesterday.
Thanks for the heads up.
fished chotard thanksgiving weekend crappie were 1/2 pound and slow, gar were big and hungry did not try going through chute
