Boy what a mistake!!!

I said I would not tell everyone how stupid I am , but hear goes. May keep someone from making the same dumb move. Went Thursday, mostly to play with my sonar unit. Got in boat and pushed ENTER, no responce. After several more tries And cleaning battery contacts, fuses,etc.. The great dummy realized you have to push the power button to get it to come on. After reading Cane pole's comments regarding sound travel in water (1100fps)and wondering why I didn't see many fish, I realized in shallow water(less than 11')my trolling motor/ outboard was making to much noise. Please don't be like me. Just because you paid a lot of money for a nice sonar, doesn't mean it can take place of the space between your ears, Every body have a good laugh, I have.

I think I would rather make the mistake you did rather than forget to put my plug in and came within seconds of totally sinking my boat. We all have done something goofy.

it even cleans the fish !

I tried that, but it leaves a few bones, that I don't like. Maybe the newer ones are better.

It's always good practice to rinse the bilge with lake water occasionally. ;)

Yep, just keep a bar of LAVA soap in the bilge for those occasions. Does a good cleaning job.

I think I can beat this...let me try. Went to the local hot spot Friday morning....20 boats wearing them out with 100 yards of launch ramp.....get it all ready.....don't take off the straps...won't budge...three other guys waiting to launch don't see the humor as we pull out and driver of the truck unhooks the straps............Saturday morning....remember straps....but had stayed at a local hotel Friday night....soooooo remove the keys and place on console....partner sends me across the lake....no keys....yell at him...again 20 to 25 boats watching.....get the keys....he stops gets out and waits for me to trolling motor over to get them.....different 5 guys waiting to launch....but they had no sense of humor either.........

Sunday we fished a different lake 70 miles west of there.

I kept hearing Forrest say "Stupid is as Stupid does!"

Could be worse. I went fishing by myself and I always hook my main line to the hook on my trailer strap. Was in a hurry backed down unhooked the trailer strap and backed it in. Yep you guessed it there goes the boat. Was the only one on the lake. Got lucky about 30 minutes later the wind switched direction and the boat come back to the dock. Your not the only one with that empty space.

Worst I've pulled was leaving the compartment keys in the truck.

I went to lunch one year on November 17th, and it was absolutely beautiful out. I called my boss and told him I was going fishing, ran home to get the boat and headed to the lake. I stopped at Walmart for some stuff on the way, so I locked the compartments in the boat. Got to the lake launched, parked the truck and took off to fish. Pulled up, dropped the TM, went to get some rods and !@#%^&^%$$ :mad: (*&^%$#@! Long way up the hill to the lot. At least I didn't run miles down the lake before I stopped.

Worst mistake I ever made was pulling a big snapping turtle into the boat that I had hooked.....Just about had to abandon ship when that thing got going.

Launched boat. Parked truck. Locked truck. Truck still running. Lake 2 hours from home. Gotta love mom and brining extra key.

You guys made my day. I have laughed and thought how good it is we can chuckle at the dumb things we do.I have seen myself in quite a few of these.Everybody be careful, especially this time of year, some of these could have bad results Be safe and good fishing..... crappie1133

just remember to have all your batteries on board before you go out, your trolling motor won't work without them, don't ask how I know:banghead

Friend of mine..... who was extremely impatient.....forgot to remove the rear tie down when launching his boat down a steep bank at the river. Never have figured out exactly how he did it, but he somehow managed to force the boat off the trailer, flipping it upside down and sinking it in the river in the process.
I got there just in time to help him get it out.
Never did get all the gear back.

He's the same guy I watched drive his truck right through a campfire. He was dangerous to be around.:Rofl

I hate to admit to this one .............BUT. Few years ago first trip of the year. Since boat was totally unloaded and cleaned for winter. Had to re-pack everything the night before. Knowing my old mind ain't what it used to be I made up a check list. Anyway stop at bait store get bait. Drive about 15 miles to launch boat. Effortless and and easy. Trusty motor fires right up. Scoot to my early season hotspot. Slide anchor in boom right on top of waypoint. Weather is perfect open rod locker and it is as bare as Mother Hubbards cupboard.

Motor back to launch load on trailer and drive home. Unhitch boat and go looking for my stupid checklist. Find it yep it has rods on it. Look over on fish cleaning table and there they are. Rigged 'ready and checked off list but left on fish cleaning table. Talk about being stuck on stupid.

I could tell where you were going right from the start. I use a checklist for things as well, and I absolutely don't check something off until it is in the truck or boat. This is after a camping trip without a grill and another without lawn chairs :Doh:. I draw a line through things as I load them, and for things that get special treatment or need prep work, I circle them when they are ready and then draw a line when they are loaded. The checklist saves me hours. I can be ready to camp and fish for a week in just an hour or so if the boat is already unwinterized.

I have my doubts about this but worth a try ...for ones with a key fob get the person with the spare key fob to try hold the fob with the "UNLOCK" button depressed pointed into a cell phone and the locked car driver holding his cell phone near the locked car. The owners of the cells talking to each other of course.
I have not tried this myself.

Won't work.

This works. I locked keys in truck at home. Wife was inside, I called her to bring remote. Not having shoes on she didn't want to bring remote to me so she hit the button while standing at the door and we were on the phone.
