As the title says, who else is looking forward to getting out on the hard water soon?

I'm more than ready to hit the ice. As for tips....I find the brush piles and fish with plastics.
You bet! Actually, as rare as ice is in this part of Ohio, we're looking forward to fishing for anything through the ice. I'm going to try using chronimid flies for panfish this year. I figure that dropping thos down ought to work pretty well with a little scent on them. We've done pretty well with tiny spoons tipped with a waxie. I'm guessing Sudbury gets ice pretty early? Used to show dogs up in that area.
We've had ice up here for about a week now. We don't have crappie though. We have to go south a bit to find 'em. I'm hoping to try for them next weekend if the weather stays cool for the rest of the week.
I had good luck for crappie late in the ice fishing season using emerald shiners, micro tubes and tiny Swedish pimples.
Id love to but with 60 degree temps I wonder if it will ever happen here ...............
Barrelslime.....if you don't mind the drive, I'll do my best to put you on slab crappie and stripers thru the ice. :cool:

I am really looking forward to open water and hope its here as early as this cold was.
P-row, I was using these jigs with these bodies. The jigheads were in white and the bodies were in silver. Last year, I found the Crappie in that lake would go nuts for emerald shiners so this summer I tried to find artificial baits that looked as similar to that as I could find. This will be my third ice fishing season where I've fished for Crappie so I'd say I'm still learning the intricacies. If anyone has any pointers for me, I'd love to hear them.

We've got plenty of cold weather here. It's going to be -24C (-11F) here overnight; -34C (-30F) with the windchill. It's definitely been an early winter here.
Got out 4 or 5 times with good ice six or so inches then came the thunder, rain and 50 deg weather last couple days. Seems like it gets harder and harder to get a prolong period when you can fish. I fish small lakes or ponds, look for the deepest water and start there, seems to work here. Is there a too deep when it comes to crappie? I've tried looking around the rest of the lake for them but haven't been able to locate them. There are couple of holes on the lake that are 60 feet deep. Do you think they would be suspended over water that deep?
