Crappiepappa I don't do what I tie but do keep a record of what jigs catch fish. It is a journal of days on the lake. What fish I catch weather conditions where I fish and what jig was most productive. That way I can go back and say that on such and such a day I fished the Pig Pen and the Christmas tree jig was a top producer Next year at that time I can go back there and see if the Christmas tree jig works again. I have been here on Caddo lake now 10 years and can go back and see what worked on a year to year basis.
One could with the ease of digital camera and computer keep a record of what you tied. I would rather see what worked on the lake rather than what I tied. Would rather eat what I catch than come home with a empty fish basket. Good idea for the guys that don't tie that many.

we should all keep records on our jigs over the years I've tied many and never tried to keep records I simply tied up a pattern he went fishing never thought about what that jig was looking like I so much as date and even paying attention to the color combination ha ha but we all should keep a record of what we make and file it away good reference for each body of water that you fish.
I just take a picture of mine. Keep it on file that way.
I probably should have, but I don't! Actually I tied so many for so long that I just was too busy to then write anything down, but at some point a long time back I decided to try to remember to take a picture or several of every order and then I put them in a folder under that persons name with the date I finished tying them. I do have a lot of pictures and so many now. Am not sure what good it will actually be, but at least when one of my old customers calls and tells me they want the same thing they got the time before, at least I have it. I probably have some that are 8 to 10 years old, but even when I changed computers several times I always brought the ones from earlier over to the new computer. So I guess in a way I do record most I tie.
Redman any jig that works I remember it, LOL! I know that long ago I should have kept records of fishing trips, but. Did not other than the few times I actually took pictures, but still all the important info is lost, like what kind of day it was, temps, water temp and clarity, etc etc. I knew that I should be doing that, but I Did not!
I'm leaning towards tying a couple of different things, send em' down and see what they do. If they git bit, I'll record conditions, lake etc. take a pic and save it. If they don't git bit stick it in the box with a tidbit about the conditions, etc and wait for a different scenario. I'm not real good about taking pics and posting them in a folder on these dadgumm puters, but I'm real good about hand writing notes (if I can find my notebook):confused:. Thanks for the help. I just wanted to be able to go back if someone called and said, please send me what I got last time, LOL! I am glad I did that as t has been used a ton of times. I did get really rushed at some points and would be packing up several orders and forget the pics, and that really gets my goat because soon it will burn me, LOL!

I keep a spread sheet with photos & materials on most of my ties but I've gotten a little behind.
I keep pictures of each tye in a file on my computer. I also keep a backup saved, just in case.
I have a binder that I use that has holders for baseball cards in it. I bag a jig attach it to a file card, write description, such as weight, head color, what is tied with, assign it a number slide in to holder. By using this I have a record of every jig tied and sold and if someone says "send me some of what I had last year" I can look up order, see what number and provide my costumer with what he wants. Over 500 jigs kept this way.
Can't tell you how many have come back asking for what they got before and sometime it's been a while. Even this year not so long ago had someone need a re-supply and the ones they got last time were in 2010, LOL! With the computer it's not hard to keep thousands and thousands of jigs. When I first started I tied a lot more hours per day than I do now and remember one of my first time sales I had. I posted a set of jigs that went too well because Just a few hours after I posted it on a couple sites I had 32 orders and counting, LOL! I was overwhelmed to say the least and it did take me a couple weeks to fill them all and over that first few days the order total was something like 40 of the assortment I had put out there. I only did that a couple time before I said to self, not doing that any more! Probably something like 1400 jigs to do that all came in at the same time, LOL!
Wow I tied the 18 jigs for that swap and thought well I've tied enough for today... Lol I thought about you skip when I was almost done and wondered how in the world you did it... Lol. I think my patience runs out after around 10 especially the same kind of jig
It's not easy and I use to have to do something like 100 to 120 a day for a long time. Now I try to limit it to maybe 50 to 80 a day. When I paint I try to do several orders at one time, but if I have Roadrunners just painting and curing over 100 takes me a while. Regular jigs I do several hundred at a time, maybe half a day or so. Then that will give me a weeks tying. RR's change my rules and I am good with less of them a day, LOL! Like today I didn't work long, but tied like 24 of them and for me marabou takes longer too the way I tie it. So if I worked a normal day for me which is not an 8 hour day any more, I can tie maybe 30 to 40 RR'S as they will take me longer than just a jig. Plus I painted RR's Friday and did the eyes over the weekend, didn't tie at all, took a break.
its what I do for something to do more than anything else because I enjoy tying, but I am getting more like I want to tie what I want to tie and not what everyone else's wants, LOL! I have so many things bought over the years to experiment with and just can't get to that, but will soon! I need to do some new stuff to show! It's what calls me.

I can only sit for about 1.5 hours at my tie station before my back makes me quit. Due to an old hunting accident, I can't sit that long. Or it could be ADHD rotfl
Understand the back, I have plates and screwed in mine and why I can't tie more per day. I can't sit that long either as some of my fusions took and on main one on the right side didn't take. I had so much trouble with it (to keep this short) it took me 4 years before I thought I would ever fish again. Then in 1993 I decided to give it a try and after that bought a boat again and have been back at it since. That was the only 4 years in my life I was not fishing! My back is shot and so are my shoulders and other parts especially joints.
don't worry I will tie your and for that matter will keep tying some for some people, just not like I have been for the last 10 years or so. I do enjoy what I tie now, but I have so much running around in my head to do and want to get to do also. That's all.

Heck I have twin scars, one on my lower back up and one on my chest, both are about the same length, 10 1/2" each. The back was in 1989 and they opened it a 2nd time 10 days after the original. Between the 2 times on the back, it made me so I don't want any more that's for sure. They wanted to do it again 2 years after the first time and I said no because I could still walk. The front of my right leg didn't work for several months after that surgery and that was pretty scary when thinking about what if they messed up and I couldn't walk at all? Is why I didn't do any more to fix it as I could walk and eventually do okay enough to not risk more.
I don't have any plates or screws in my back but when you get to be a old geezer it is hard to sit in the same position for long periods of time. Your bones start to lock up for me, a hour is a long time enough for maybe 15. The old knees are starting to give me some problems. Dang when you don't need to consult the weather report to get the forecast. Just get out of bed in the morning and say yep it's going to rain today. You know your getting some age on you.
