A 1-2 sonar punch for cold-water crappies

While fall waters are getting colder and colder, the crappie bite does nothing but get hotter and hotter! Whether guiding or our fishing for fun, I use a 1-2 punch of sonar techniques to help me find, then catch, crappies during the cold-water period. By combining Humminbird Side Imaging (to find large concentrations of fish) with traditional dual-beam sonar (to help me target those fish using vertical presentations), its common to leave the lake with big smiles and a brimming livewell. I am impressed that you can distinguish your swivel from your jig. I have a HB 385 on my TM and a first for me Lowrance Elite 7 HDI on my console. Still learning the Lowrance as I've always had HBs. Good article.

These pics show exactly why i switched from a flasher to sonar last ice season. So much more enjoyable using the picture rather than watching lights flashing. My Lowrance elite 5 icemachine is perfect for this. I'm a humminbird man on open water tho and use my 1197 to do this when i can.
