:hatchet:
Looks like Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be real ice makers
I agree Dave. We should be on good ice before christmas. Do you have a lake in mind to start on? If they keep pulling water from shenango there wont be much left in the golden run area and we all know its the first area to get thick ice.
I think we may be able to ice fish this weekend atleast that is what I am hoping. If not this weekend I agree with Chaunc by Christmas.
The lake was open yesterday. Most of the ice was gone and the wind was making nice waves to kill all that bad ice that was on the lake. The golden run area was frozen over again this morning but it's paper thin. Main lake is open by swim beach. Lets just hope we don't get ice than a lot of snow this weekend coming up or it will be a lot longer before we can get on.
Have you taken a ride up to Pymy yet? Going to make my rounds tomorrow with the auger.
Just a heads up. Went up to St Paul's Home, to help take my mom to an apt in Hermitage. Anyways, went over Shenango River, and it is up again, so guessing that Pymy is dumping water again. It could also mess up the ice at Golden Run, flowing over the top of the ice. Be very careful guys. There is a small lake up by Meadville, that some ice fish on, but I don't know the name of it. They were fishing it last year, when other places you couldn't fish on ice. Maybe chaunc could email Darl Black and ask about it, to see if he has any reports on it.
You might be talking about woodcock lake. If it's the one right by the Erie wildlife area.
Sparkie, that just might be it.
Didn't get out today to check any lakes. What about you guys?
Ken here is a text I got last night from a non fisher friend, she lives above Jamestown: "Went over the causeway this morng, froze over but i dont know how thick. didnt see anyone out on it. u b careful" I did not see this myself.
Not sure what will happen if we get that 3-5 snow today/tonight.
Thanks Dave. We're getting that snow now here in sharon. We may get more than 6 the way its coming down. Wet and heavy flakes that are piling up fast.
Don't forget about Kahle, that's a good one for freezing early.
Mike, where's Kahle located? Hope to be on some ice by next weekend.
Corps Lakes Gateway: Pennsylvania - Woodcock Creek Lake This is a corp lake.
Don't bother going to Kahle because there aren't any fish left there. I caught them all this summer!!!! :biggrin
maybe tamarack
Saw 2 guys at goolden run this checking the ice this morning. Said there was around 4-5 inches along shore. They didn't go out very far.
Do any of you fish the celery farm area?
Yes, but it's one of the last areas to thicken up. Seems like somebody goes thru there every year. Thankfully we haven't lost anyone there YET.
They're on Golden run today.
There was about 10 guys that fished the area today. 3 of us fished all day but all the other guys except one other shanty, left a little past noon. The bite was tough. All small crappies and gills with only a couple that would keep. Ice was almost 4 in most areas we fished. Dont think it will stand up to the warmup coming so be careful if you go.
