Since installation the right side of my side imaging picture is extremely dark. What could possibly be the issue?
The transducer could have a problem with the right side Si sonar.
The installation of the transducer could be the problem.
The unit could have a problem with the right side Si sonar.
Your boat may list to one side while in use on the water.
Let’s try and eliminate some of these:
- If you know of anyone else that uses a Humminbird Si model unit, test their unit on your transducer and power cable (even if you have to hold the cables in by hand). Any Humminbird Si model will work for this test. Cross-test your unit on their boat and transducer as well.
- Take a few pictures of the installation of your HDSi transducer and post them back here. Take these from transducer height. We need at least one pic of the overall transom of your boat and at least one looking from the left side of your boat across to the right side of the transom. One from directly behind the transducer will be helpful as well.
- If you are using an AS-Si-DB-Y or transducer switch; take these out and direct connect the HDSi transducer to your 898c HD Si unit and see if it makes a difference or not.
- If your boat is listing badly enough to cause this, you need to think about rearranging the load that your boat is carrying.
OK thanks for reply. I will give it a try.
I will give that a try also. Made adjustments to my ducer but was unable to put the boat in the water this weekend. If thats not the problem i will try the factory default setting. Plan to get out this weekend though and will keep you posted. Thanks for your help.
Went out yesterday after adjusting the ducer and restoring defaults. The same issue exists. Took photos of screen and ducer. I don't have a buddy with a compatible unit to trouble shoot.

Mount looks fine. Question: You do trim the motor up when searching/cruising for structure correct?
If so you may have a transducer that has failed.
No I have the motor down. Having the motor down will would affect the right side?
I believe it would be the left side if the motor is down. I have to trim my engine up while cruising/searching for structure as my engine trimmed down will block the view. Try trimming the motor up next time out if you have had it trimmed down and if you still have issues I would say the transducer has gone out on he right side.
From the looks of transducer on right side of motor ,it does not matter whether trim or not for pic on right side, but may have a little problem on left side with motor down but not right side
Oh,by the way the extra cord to your transducer will cause one side to mess up if not properly wound and will cause you to often have to default to clear up. It took me over a year to solve that problem on right side ,but now left side having problem and when I get well will check that out also
Hi genec
I'm a new user and having some trouble with my 1198. I'm not getting a DI or SI picture at all. I'm still troubleshooting myself but may have to ask for help on here at some point. Just wondering what is "not properly wound"? Thanks.

Mark, anytime you have problem just let these guys know and they will help you ,it is a few real good guys on here but I am not even close to being in their class,as for the transducer cable you should have gotten information on how to roll the extra cable. If you can,t find it let us know and someone will explain better than I can.
If there is a lot of extra cable...
Make a coil of the extra cable about 8-10 inches around ...and then "figure-8" the coil onto itself...and affix together...
If using zip ties..DO NOT cinch the zip ties down hard against the cable......this can damage the wires inside the cabling...

I just keep my extra cable rolled up like a donut!!
I'm surprised that white speedo thang to the left aint messing up your left image some. As far as the right side goes, sounds like a bad transducer, you could try to gently spread the pins out a bit to see if you can get a good connection but I think you are going to have to replace it.
I was noticing your water line on the transom and it appears you have some tilt to the side which is common on narrow beam boats and aluminum boats when only one person is in the boat. This may also be giving you the dark image to one side if the transducer is not pointing straight down at trolling speeds. It is possible the HDSI is faulty but I haven't seen many like that.

Brian, if the right side of the transducer were angled downwards than the right side should be brighter. Chances are that the problem is in the transducer itself but there is no way to tell unless he can cross-test with another unit.
locknload7, I think it is time to call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks.
I would say only the images closest to the boat on the right side would be bright but the range that the beam can shoot out would be restricted and would create dark images beyond that. In any case, there are no snapshots to review. I agree, a call to customer service or the dealer he purchased from are in order.
