I would think the best bet would be to send back to manufactor. Might call them first to get an estimate. They may have a local service center they could refer you to.

Not much chance of getting one repaired if it's more than a few years old. OEM is the only source for repair because all of the parts are custom and not available to anybody else. Even the OEMs don't do much repair because parts get obsolete before they even finish production of the units. Even though manufacturers hype their new models as big improvements, often they are forced to make a change because they can't get the parts to keep making or fixing the old ones.
I tried to get my lowrance checked out by the mfg and any thing older than 5 yrs they won't work on.
Yes, you guys are right. It's an Eagle and Lowrance response is throw it away and buy one of our new improved units. Thats why i bought a new Bird. just had the hope someone might be able to replace the bulb. Unit works fine can see the screen when shining a flashlight on it. Just a 30cent bulb but I can't figure out how to get to it.
See if you can find a parts one on eBay and use it for a trial run, prolly have a good bulb in it too. Heck post the model in the classifieds here and on bbc, bet someone has one laying around.
Not a 30 cent bulb. It's most likely a tiny fluorescent bulb or two, much thinner than a pencil that may be integrated into the screen. About $10 CCFL Backlight|LCDPARTS.net if you can figure out which bulb will fit and if you can get to it.
Had the same problem with Lowrance telling me to buy their new and improved unit after the puck went out on my Eagle unit after only a little over a 1-year of use. I still haven't got around to looking on EBAY for a new one and I sure do miss the GPS. Just burns me up that a few days after a warranty is over the unit is worthless %$^&^%$%$#^%$#%$^&(*_)(*) blankety blank blank:banghead
Seems like Lowrance only fixes units they can resell to Cabelas as refurbished. Be thankful you didn't spend over $3000 on a new Touch 12. Read about other peoples problems.
I purchased a touch12 a few months ago. It has not worked right since day one. After weeks of trouble shooting with Lowrance they came to the conclusion it is bad. They said they would replace it. I mailed it in 20 days ago. They received it within 4. I haven't seen or heard anything about the unit. Some called Lowrance yesterday. They told me they didn't have any 12's in stock and didn't know when they would have any. I asked for a round about idea and I got a IDK. Very frustrating paying 3200 for a unit that has never worked from the get go and who knows when I will have it back. I still can't believe they never communicated with me about them being out of stock. So if I never called. I could have been waiting on this unit for who knows how long.
There unfortunately is currently a hold on the 12's until further notice due to some of the HDS-12 screens malfunctioning after a few hours of use. They are trying to compile a list of possibly affected serial numbers so they can announce them. They did say that if you have an HDS 12 and it runs for 3 hours right out of the box with no problems that your unit is probably unaffected by this malfunction. Please message us or give us a call if you have any other questions on this matter.
That's the very reason I have not bought another Low product. This old unit has been a good one. And I really like it on trolling motor. Just hate to throw away something that might be repaired for less than a new unit. After I sent them a note asking about authorized repair stations I have received 5 canned messages about their repair program, sorry for your inconvenience will get back to you.
What unit is it, Cray ?? I've got a few "old" Eagle/Lowrance units (junkers) that might have the parts you need.

CatFan I got in there and got the circuit board loose but could not get the flat strip with all the copper wires lose from it's plug in the board. Can get to the screen portion but it is encased in a metal cover that I could not figure out how to get apart. The bulb or bulb's are inside that. Did not want to tear it up so just put back together and that's why I was trying to find some place that might repair them. Thanks for the link.
Thanks to everyone for your reply's and advice. Looks like Strmwalker has got me hooked up with a unit that will work with all my connections. Once again the good folks on CD.C come through. Great site and great bunch of folks Thanks again Strmwalker.:HandsClapping
