Nimrod uses them a lot in his home lake. He has posted pix before on how he sets em up.
Have seen them weighted with rocks wedged into the slats, 2 blocks secured under them in the middle or even on 1 edge and then either covered with slats, limbs stuffed and/ or tied into or on them and sunk horizontal or vertically...actually so long as they have proper weight, they are quite readily adaptable !
I think with stakes nailed vertically spaced atleast 8'' apart they work great and cause fewest hang ups. I use rocks in the corners between top and bottom to sink. Best thing to place IMO. If you have any doubt they work search my posts.
Man made up some tees out of the pallets and could not sink them with three blocks???? How many does it take? Mite just do the stakes when water goes down.
U need to take off some of the slats from crate. Search nimrod as he has a bunch of pix posted
Drug the pallets back on shore.... Gonna wait till the water goes down then make some of nimrods stake beds. Water drops 11 foot in winter then I can drive stakes in lake bottom.:ThumbsUp
That works well too
I USE WHOLE PALLETS WITH VERTICLE STAKES ADDED WITH ROCKS IN THE CORNERS. nO PROBLEM SINKING EVEN ALONE. SEEN GUYS MAKE STRUCTURE OUT OF 2 OR 3 PALLETS TOGETHER, TOO MUCH WOOD TO SINK!
Nimble do the guy a favor and put a pix up. I know you only have 1000 pix of them
Attachment 139536Gonna use this design of nimrods
They will work!!!!!
Takes A LOT of weight to sink from what I’ve found. TOO MUCH I might Add.
Please use caution when using wooden pallets. They may be fumigated/treated with highly toxic chemicals, chemicals used to kill insects and other bacteria. Both of which we need in our lakes, insects and bacteria that is.
Here we go, gonna give em a try....
Two blocks probably not enough weight to sink those. If not, try using rocks, one in each corner works good.
Two blocks were perfect
Pallets I use have fewer boards across on bottom. I put that side up and center of weight lower makes sinking up right , if not careful with weight too high can cause them to flip over on the way down.
That is why attach the blocks on both sides in the middle...it also allows fish to get under it; more `cover` for the same amount of materials.
How long will these last? How long till they deteriorate?
Depends on the wood type; most pallets are hard wood...some are imported extremely HARD wood. This summer a "Friend" and I looked at my 1st ever pallet sunk in CJ Brown, put in 20+ yrs ago as an inverted `T`. It is stillvisible on sonar, but the top has been bent over, likely by a boat anchor...that bad boy was stuffed with mulberry branches and took 6 10" blocks under it to ensure it stayed down...over the yrs it has produced like a thousand fish including several nice bass. Plus other people fish it too...
