Gonna fish some next week at mom's and gonna spider rig. The lake I will be fishing has mostly the multi spined black crappie in it. Question is, do you do anything different when black crappie is the target, use minners or just jigs???

Got a spot at Enid that is sure bet on catching Blacks, never did anything different to catch em
I would fish as usual jigs or minnows or both....but I think I would target shallower water......and the black crappie relate to wood more also
jigs tipped with minnows work too !!!
Black crappie will hit much smaller jigs than whites. They feed on insects in tight cover a lot. If you're going to the clear water lake I'm thinking about, you may try fishing a small jig tipped with a nibble under a small cork and cast past cover, then slowly reel it up to the cover. They spook easily.
Be amazed how small of a bait a 2.5 lbs black crappie will thump. 1/64th and 1/32 with a #6 and #4 hook is used around here on black crappie all the time. Of course, those MS black crappie we caught last week inhaled those huge minners just fine and they weren't even big enough to keep! Use what you got, but smaller is good especially in clear waters.
Water will be clear, do I need to go down in line size. Rigs tied with 10 pound clear mono
hehe
I know where ya going and I would use 6lb test lo vis green or clear
If the corp ramps stay closed I may be joining you
We fish for black Crappie here in Lake Monticello where the water is clear as vodka. If we use anything thicker than 6# they just won't hit it. If we are fishing shallower than 15 ft we go to 4# clear!! Also, they like structure...... Be very quiet in the boat!!
Rees I am very familiar with the lake your gonna be fishing, I got some advice, two sticks of dynamite equals two limits!
Hoping for some wind and maybe even a little rain. Aint gonna be whooped by this lake, awesome fesh in that lake. May have to cast to em and if so I will.

BTW. Remember, first frost means some of them are comin out of the freezer and goin into some grease.
Wish we had those round here
Nice Gills. Looks like you weren't quick enough on the hook set. Its a pain when they swallow it.
