I just pulled up the COE homepage and tried to access the recreation area section and all I got was a blank page with the following notice "ALL CORPS OF ENGINEERS LAKES ARE CLOSED DUE TO GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN." I knew the COE camp grounds and boat ramps were closed but the way the notice is written it sounds like the entire lake is closed. Anyone fish a COE lake today?
Our understanding in Mississippi is that the lakes themselves are open IF you can find a ramp NOT owned by the Federal government. At the big 4 COE lakes in MS (Butla, Sardis, Enid, and Grenada) the State parks are open and state park ramps are open, therefore....you can fish the lake.
Fished Keystone today but launched at Prairie View ramp. Lake wasn't closed but the fish mouths were! Was thinking about trying Cowskin tomorrow. Wonder if it will be open? Guess I'll find out!
Fished Gibson today and talked to Gene Jackson gate attendant at Rocky Point Campground. He said the gates will be closed at all corps ran parks and campgrounds at 8pm October 2, 2013. There will still be access to the lake at private and non corps ran parks and ramps. Sure is going to be a hassle to find these access points.......Ranger
Hope this doesnt last long. To many of our tourneys are on Corps lakes.

We need a new law that all government payments for salary and general exp. of all house and senate member be stopped if a budget is not passed and approved by the president before July first of each year!!!! And the government can not be shout down. Better them than the 800,000+ government workers.
It seems really stupid to me that they can't just leave the gate open. I don't need their help to launch the boat anyway.
I think that any of the ramps at marinas will be open like choteau bend because they lease the ramps from the corps. That's why your corps pass does not work at those ramps. They still charge you $3.00 to launch and the corps gets none of it.

Wonder why (according to the main forum) some of the Miss & Ark COE ramps are open but ours are not?

If I am not mistaken White Horn Is privately owned and should remain open but please don't quote me cause I am just guessing on this one. Snug Harbor I think should also be available too but it's been years since I have used or even drove down those access points.....Ranger
Here is a listing from the COE of Lake Eufaula boat ramps that are open. Several of these I have never heard of. If anyone knows the location of some of the more obscure ones it might be helpful to post directions.

That list of ramps on the Big E is about right! Lot of those ramps are primative camping areas anyway. Meaning the corps doesn't maintain them anyway. EB
