I just got my order in from fishing tackle liquidators and ready to see how they are going to work. I wanted to find something smaller but for $5.99/each i couldn't pass it up. Now I have to scouring thepersonal classifieds page for a deal on rods. Rees Guide got a pretty good deal on there the other day from what I can tell

You can get the Pinnacle Limit rods up to 12 ft from Grizzly Jig 4 for $60, which is not a bad price. They don't have a 14 ft in that model, but I am not coordinated enough to handle anything longer than 12 ft and 10 is even better.
Iffin you can get by with 12 footers, Pinnacles are hard to beat.
At Okatibbee I use the 12' Firecast poles from Jerome Tanks in Philadelphia. They are $23 each. I've broken 3 PSTs swinging in fish. I've never broken a Firecast. To me it's a lot easier landing a fish with a 12' instead of a 14'.

Our Okatibee fish are not usually like the Big 4 fish.....lol. I have set the hook on a tibby fish and hit the man in the back of the boat with that fish. They are getting bigger though!

12' is long enough. I bought 5 pst's last year and broke 4 tips replaced tips ain't had a problem since. Was very disgusted at first with them till I got new tips. Those pinnacles are your best bet on price but quality ? Pst's are great! Everything they advertise is true. I troll with 3oz weights. And yank in doubles. Double whites and largemouth and crappie. Well worth the price and ain't bad compared to other rods with that quality. If I wanted to move up in price it would be the old Wally marshal signature series they got backbone like none other. Now I troll fast so I don't have to worry about watching for hits. When they hit you know it. So if you use light weights and slow troll pinnacle sounds your best economical choice. Pst hands down.
Be careful with those 12' poles. If your just drifting you might catch one every once on a while. But as soon as you turn the trolling motor you won't get a bite fishing that close to the boat. Best to go with a 14' rod.
Really? I am by no means a crappie pro but i absolutely love it and as long as ihave ever used is 12'. This year during the spawn i target fish in water from 4' to 8' in Barnett while everybody else was beating the bank. My philosophy(like i really know what I'm talking about) was to catch the fish that were coming and going from and to the shallows. I did pretty good. Do yall think a 14' rod will make a big difference? My only reservation is that the 14' pole are 3 sections. It just so easy to breakdown a 10' or 12' pole when relocating. I know that sounds lazy but it can be aggrvating getting all those poles realed in just to let them back out.

If your on a budget get the Pinnacals. I have a set of them a set 12 pst' and a set of 14 southern crappie rods. Have never broken a tip on any of them. Have caught lots of big Arkabutla fish on them Pinnacals with no problems and fish them right by the trolling motor that is rarely turned off. Just depends on how they are biting as to which pole I prefer.
I have 14 and 16 foot rods. Some of the tops have been broke off or sections have broke. Not sure of the length of some of them anymore. I keep a box of tops and guides when camping.
A 16 foot rod with 2 oz. sinker at 12 ft deep will put the baits just at the front of the boat with trolling motor on speed one. Speed 2 will put them under the trolling motor. I can pick them up on the fish finder mounted on the trolling motor. With this set up, no reeling in line, fish are at your face when swung in.
The pst rods I broke we're a fluke it had to have been a bad batch of rods when they made them. I handled those rods like a newborn baby and they went off like a firecracker. Got new rod tips and they have went threw the ringer. As far as rod lengths go this is my experience I've trolled with 6 foot rods and 12 foot rods all caught fish with no problem. Trolling motor or big motor no problem. Using weights to cranking. Music blaring and people screaming no problem. I wade in the spring I use a 12 foot rod caught a big fish and broke my rod. So I used the bottom half to jig with which was 6 foot long and wore them out. I've got 2 sons that wade with me they use 6 foot poles and are loud as hell they smash into beds and everything they catch fish also. That's my experience with the lengths. I choose 12 over 6 because I like the spread better. Just whatever you choose make sure all poles are the same. Much easier to tune them to the catch a lot quicker.
I have some 14' Capps and Coleman that I really like for shallower water and lighter weight. I'm adding a set of 14' PSTs for heavier applications. The PSTs are replacing 12' rods.
Go 14' now so ya won't have to later!
