well i'm a owner now

went to cabelas and purchased a 596c HD DI today. should be a big difference from the basic 550 grey scale. now I know i'm beating a dead horse here but I want the final word on this. I want to use this as a shoot thru hull ducer as I have it now, when I asked the pro's at cabelas (yea right...lol) about using a shoot thru he said yea it willwork but the picture will not get as crisp as if you where to use it at the transom ...true? if not I want to exchange it thru hummingbird for the latest and greatest shoot thru puck. sorry for killing this topic.

try and send a PM to Humminbird Greg or Jason Halfen. They will be able to give you a straight answer.

The transducer that comes with the unit will not work as a shoot thru. Hbird has an exchange program for transducers so that you can swap for the correct one. You will lose a bit of definition with the thru hull, expecially on the DI. Hull composition and proper installation makes a big difference in performance.

I think you will be happier using the transom mount.....you spent a lot of money for good graphics, go ahead and get the best you can!

Yea I was thinking the same vic alittle while ago. ...just have to do some research on how and where to put the transducer on the transom.
Don't want to screw this up. ..lol.

The only difference in the transom mount XNT 9 DI T and the shoot thru hull XIH 9 DI T is the extra epoxy pack that comes with it...(the DI xducer is the same and it will work as a shoot thru hull...just maybe not as well as transom mount)..

And the temp sensor will not read water temp thru the hull

Also...I don't know for sure but I doubt the transom mount hardware comes with the shoot thru version ...

Place a sand bag on the xducer and add enough water to cover the xducer for testing...

The inside-the-hull version (XIH-9-DI-T) of the DI transducer (XNT-9-DI-T) is the same exact transducer but it comes with an epoxy kit instead of the transom mount hardware.

I don’t know that we sell just the epoxy kit itself as I cannot find it on the web site. I would test the location as Rickie stated by using a plastic storage bag with sand, pea gravel or something that will hold the transducer in place. Fill the hull with enough water to cover the body of the transducer. First though you will need to prep and clean the hull. Sand/grind down any old epoxy that may be there and also any covering paint. Wash the inside of the hull out with a degreaser type detergent to get rid of any oils or grease that may have found their way in there (what you use to wash dishes with will work fine). You want the transducer resting on the fiberglass when you test it and ultimately epoxy it in place.

Will there be any signal loss? Sure, you are sending and receiving an acoustic signal through different mediums (fiberglass and water), but if the installation is done correctly it will be hard for most to see any difference between a transducer installed inside-the-hull and one mounted on a transom.

I have a 16' stratos bass boat and the bilage area is pretty small and theres a hose right over the ducer ,
I guess the piddly will have to do for now
