I'm gonna try to switch my Minn Kota 5 speed bow mount Edge to a variable speed. Minn Kota says all I need to do is replace the momentary and 5 speed switch in the pedal with a variable speed control board. They recommended I have it done by an authorized Minn Kota service person. What is the name of the trolling motor shop behind Bradford Marine in Sherwood? Or is it so easy even a cave man or a retired lawyer can do it! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you get this to work, pleae post the part numbers, price, and how hard( or easy) it was to do. I have a 5 speed Minn Kota that I would like to convert.
All I know is the man at H2O is very good. If I had to have one work on It be him. He help me our greatly

Alright, here's an update of this deal! Talked to the Minn Kota folks again by email and they said the simplest way to do this would be to order Part No. 2884051 directly from them (cost $190.00 plus shipping which estimated $10.00 to $11.00) and put it in myself. They said it was a kit containing everything that would be needed to make the conversion, complete with easy step by step, color coded instructions. So maybe a cave man or a retired lawyer might be able to do it! :yikes I may do this. If I mess it up can one of you electronic wizards bail me out and help me?

You can do it jerry, I've seen some of your engineering up close and personal,just a step for a stepper!!!!!
Jerry I found a couple of these on Ebay and they were just under $200. I bet you can do this in 10 minutes. There is a picture of the instructions that you can kind of see.
The digital camera is your friend. Before you disassemble, take plenty of pics and make notes, if needed, of the way the wiring and assembly was done originally. Then unpackage the new parts and go crazy. Remember, if in doubt, always cut the red wire...or maybe it is the blue wire.

I need to be able to control speed and keep it constant slow trolling. With the 5 speed I can't do that. I can only go whatever speed the different speeds go.
Have you priced the motor you really want and tried to sell your old one? Good luck if you make the conversion.:highfive
