It all depends on the lakes you fish.
I believe the 2 best options for Lowrance HDS will be Navionics HotMaps or Lowrance Lake Insight HD 2013. Here is what I found on each of the manufacturers websites >
Lake Insight HD 2013 > Lake of Egypt - Standard Definition
Kincaid ------ High Definition
Rend --------- High Definition
Navionics HotMaps > Lake of Egypt -- Could not find on the card
Kincaid ------- - High Definition
Rend ---------- High Definition
Brian, I am assuming the Lake Insight I have on my units are a standard version and these are an upgrade? Are they worth having?
Thanks!
Dan
Dan, the pre-loaded Insight maps have not changed much since Lowrance came out with Insight. The same applies to the Humminbird Contour XD. I'm sure the new Insight HD map cards will have much more information on them. In general, it seems the Navionics cards do a little better job on most lakes.
See if you can find some fishing buddies that have tried both cards on lakes in your area because like JustinP said, it really depends on the lake you fish as to which card will work best.

Navionics is going to be the best bet even over the insight that comes loaded on some of the units. Also, if you have two HDS units you can now link them with an ethernet cord and share your chip between the two units. If you need it on front and back that comes in handy so you dont have to buy two chips.
I have Navionics Premium and Platinum, the Platinum definitely has more detail. However in some of the larger bays in the back 1/2 it doesn't have much detail and the Insight is better.
I appreciate all the replies so far! It is looking like the Navionics Platinum is going to get some serious consideration.
