Working on a Rosy Red Minnow Jig

I am still trying to get a good substitute chenille for a Rosy Red minnow and use something like this rabbit for a tail, but right now this may be as close as I can some until then. So all Rabbit, zonker and crosscut. I am thinking once wet these colors will kind of blend a little making it look close enough maybe? Comments please?

There are a lot of pictures of these and range from not Rosy at all and dark to bright orange so remembering when I got the chance to use these minnows in Arkansas in the fall of 2011 most seemed less than a vibrant color. Still need to work on a good head color, I know!

Like was said above. I think they will light up the fish.

We dont get em here but have seen pictures of em. People that fush em swear by their hardiness. Would think the colors would work fine and be plenty close enough. Would like to see it wet also.
I remember Len, i think, tying a really good imitation on another site.

I was wrong, it was RadTexan's tie that was money.

wow Skip that is darn close to the rosy red after seeing the pictures on your computer you did a fantastic job and I sure like that jig.


hopefully I'll get there for the fall fishing so we can try that rosy red jig out.

Thanks guys! Yes Bob I will convert this over to a Roadrunner too for that Fall fishing. Think the Spring it will do well also.

MS I got to fish with them in Arkansas and they are much better than shiners, they don't die so easy and are a lot tougher plus the crappie love them. Also their color I think has to help. We only fish 1/2 day then and left with 60 from Lake Greeson and fished with Jerry's guide service. It's a beautiful lake and we enjoyed it a lot, may go back there soon.

I will try to get it wet for you guys soon. Maybe just in house and I would like to get one in the water as well as out after wet.

It's transparent gold and I took a little of it and mixed in some clear that has some gold holo glitter in it as a second dip. So I dipped it in just the gold and them quickly into the mix. This is what I got. Really just starting to mess with mixing paint because I never had time for that before, but now that I have pretty much quit selling jigs and cut orders off, I have more time to play. Never know what will be next as I have a ton of colors to play with.
i have also painted a head green and then dipped it into the mix of gold, clear and glitter. Will keep working on some stuff to see what I can come up with.

Skip that looks good for the colors.
Looking at the minnow the colors in it run from head to tail without much change.
I would take yellow paint and mix in some white to make the yellow lite so it would match the rabbit color. After dipping the head in the yellow tap on a little orange on the bottom of the head, not much just enough to blend the head with the orange in the rabbit.

Mixing paints can be interesting, lots of colors can be made. :)

Stump Hunter not sure how familiar you are with these minnows, but they vary in color so much I am trying to just his some kind of medium on them. The go from very pale to bright as all get out. Also looking at the picture I linked at first you right they seem like their color stays close all the way, but I also see some brighter tint in the middle of that picture. Then you get a picture like the one I am posting at the bottom which shows 2 of them and different colors.

skip I notice one of the rosy reds has a lot of yellow which do you prefer the red or yellow I believe the yellow one would look awesome with a little bit of red with it.

The ones I use fishing were not bright in color so I am trying to get the pink side of the minnow so used the Peachy Peach Rabbit strips on this jig. I wanted the yellow tint to come from the peachy side of this and the brighter color to mix in. I am thinking this is as close as I can get with just rabbit. I am working on some chenille to also work as a Rosy Red body. The real ones in hand do not have a lot of bright yellow like in that pic. I put the wrong like in for the top one because it's the same as the pic I posted, but this link here is more like natural and a pale yellow or for me more to the peach side.

you got my wheels are turning skip I'm thinking about mixing up some plastics to see what I can come up with.

There you go Bob, you should be able to do something close I would think.

You are going to have a good jig when you are none. I think the rabbit colors are as close as you can get. It's always good to get other tyers thinking box going :) The minnows work so any jig close to the right color should be awesome. Nice work Skip :ThumbsUp
