Has anyone ever tried using Hummingbirds for bait? I've heard about this for years and just wondered how effective it is. Doesn't seem fair to me, poor lil Hummingbirds.

I have never heard this, but it should be illegal! Besides, I don't think they can fly underwater! :)
I think Lowrance uses them to increase sales. :Rofl
Nice one Craig......Ranger
I want to see you catch one. Fair chase only, hands only.
As a kid, we would use a hook without a weight and hook a cicada through the abdomen. Flick him in the direction you wanted him to fly and grab the line when you wanted him to hit the water. Made a good topwater buzz bait.
Lol
They aren't hard to catch if your patient! And if your feeding them.
Did that once as a kid . the little sucker drilled me somehow . But dang sure let him go .
I thought Hummingbirds just made good trot line weights. Didn't know you could use them for bait. Now I get the post, you're talking about our lil feathered friends. LOL. Alll joking aside make a video of catching one and we all will be somewhat richer......Ranger
this is the funniest fishing question I've ever heard. I truly hope it was a joke. LOL

Here some are lined up on a handy carrier!
Redge, OMG, I have never seen that many HBs on one feeder at one time! Usually they fight each other off the feeder! :) Did you take this pic?
Yep took that pic this morning eating breakfast! We will feed about a gallon a day while they are here. We have 3 or 4 feeders out most of the season. They can be very territorial, mainly early in the spring. Thanks for looking.
Those look different than the ones around here . The ones here are slimmer and have a banded throat . Better watch out . Those things will go get every friend they got . Pretty soon you'll go broke buying sugar . I went to a place called Indian springs in Arkansas . Must be 500,000 of those in that area . So many that in the evening they flew around pooping , felt like rain .
