12, 14, 16?

I am finally getting my boat set up to get serious out on the water. Once I decide on a set of rod holders(I have just layed them out on the deck before) I would like to buy a matching set of rods. I have a garage full of different brands and have landed on the BnM PST's. I currently have 2 12'ers and am trying to decide what length to buy to round out my set. I mainly fish by my self at the moment, as most of my friends still chase green carp, but I was wondering if the 14 or 16'ers get difficult to handle and land fish? Any opinions on the subject? Is the extra length worth it?

i did 14's and they work fine....

14 gets my vote.

Pole length depends on what you feel comfortable with. I use 12 fters they work good for me.

14 B&M PST.........and as for rod holders I chose Hi-Teks.......a great combo:fish

Those 16's are a hand full. Hawgdawg runs 8,12,16 and with a 4' separation I think it helps with not getting tangled.

If 16,12,8 works then 18,12,6 ought a be better. I hate tangles.

You think you hate tangles get you an 18 foot pole in a rig less than 22 foot long. I hate long poles. I run a 14, 12, 8, and a 4'10" when running eight and leave off the 14 when running 6. I can turn pretty hard without tangling most of the time.
Spider rigging I use 12s and fixxin to go to 14s, don't want no 16s personnally

I use the Spyder Lok rod holders and when spider rigging jigs on Okatibbee I use 12' poles. When you're fishing clear or shallow water you'd need longer poles.

What brand of 4'10"? I'm looking for two good short poles. I use 12, 7 and some old 5' poles out the back set for minimum of 5 feet of horizontal separtation. Rarely run more than 6 poles. Hate tangles!!!

I like my 14's. 16s to me are to much to handle. IMO, least for me

I run 18,14,10 on one side. 16,12,8 or 6 on the other. Might be why I can't go straight. Probably trolling on the other side of em on one side and just short of them on the other.

Trolling I use all 14's, Pulling cranks I use 2-8, 2-12,2-14, and 2-16's.

6 12' pst's. I use for all trolling. Fan em out and angle em out. No tangles.

Trolling minners all 16' ozark. Pulling Cranks 16,12,8,5 all pst's (other than the 5's and they are ugly sticks). I have no problems with my 16's.

Trolling minners i would definetly get the 16's :twocents. You would be glad you did in the long run. I had 14's before i got the 16's.

Ask Billy E....I can turn that Predator around on a DIME!! With no tangles.

all mine are 12 ft, never had problems.

my vote is 12 footers....just like a two piece pole

14's. I have 16's that I never seem to use.

For pulling cranks I use eight 9'. For strolling jigs, I use 6, 9, 12, and 14 (and wish it were 16).

I like em and the price isn't bad. adequate backbone.

Thanks for the opinions guys! I have 5's, 7's, 8's, 10's, 11's and 12's. I think I am going to pull the trigger buy a set of 14' PST's. Now to decide on a set of holders, I really like the spyder-loks, they look great and I am all for supporting a local business. I just need to make sure they will work out on my boat. I have a 2004 17' tracker stick steer so it's layout is a bit different. I may have to do a bit of fabricating to get everything the way I would like it. After moving back from South FL it took me two days to unpack myself....and three more weeks to unpack my wife's stuff haha. Now to finish re-carpeting the boat and I should be back on the water. Can't wait!!

Any body been out on "the dink hole" Lately?

On that stick steer get you a set of Scott Echols Hi Tec 9inch holders. Mine are 9 in high mounted on gunnel on my stick steer. Don't know exactly what you have on the tracker to mount to. He can fab you up a set to mount just about any way you can come up with.

Its a term of endearment for the Ross Barnett Reservoir. I live on the large bay on the southeast end.

I have looked at those and have had several good recommendations for his products come my way. The panfish series I have has a front casting deck in front of the main seat. I am trying to decide if I want to mount a seat(or double seats up there) or just mount the holders to the casting deck and fish from the control seat. if I chase the latter I would lose 2-3' or more of rod length extending out over the deck or I could mount them closer to the edge have to reach the distance and risk missing fish. decisions decisions...

Thanks! Just what I'm looking for, a short pole with good backbone. Price is right on them too....website shows $11.50.

Are the pst poles good for spider rigging with minnows or they really only good for pulling cranks?

i do both with my pst 14's, can't afford or got room for 8 more of any kind...they do just fine...
