Now that's a bull!
nice gill
That is great.
Nice Gill SYG. Were you using a fly rod, or a casting bubble?
I was using a bream buster
Pretty cool - and a very nice fish. I didn't even know they were very active at night. Around here they don't seem to wake up until 9:00AM. Maybe they just been up partying all night and are slow to get going in the morning.
Nice fish!
What a neat catch. I and my son got on to some scattered big females on shallows (4-5') up till 9:00 pm and it was dark by then. That was on a south Iowa public city Lake.
I sure appreciate your post as I would have bet against success chasing any size bluegill in the deep night hours. Did you stay out long?? Thanks again
I actually had to be at work at 12 so I only fished from about 9-11pm. I am off tonight and plan on taking a buddy and fish a little later. When they hit it in the pitch black dark, it sounds like a cannon going off. It was really fun, I'm ready to go back tonight. I will post another report tomorrow.
That sounds like fun, great idea!
Wow great catch!
I tried Night fishing once and now thats basically all I do I average at 20-30 every night I normally just use Bread or little chunks of Hotdogs and they just go crazy I catch them as soon as the bait hits the water it seems like.
This sounds like perfect thing to do in heat of summer!
Are you guys using floats?
Yeah I leave 8 inches a foot 2 feet or 6 feet of space and it don't bother them they bite it just normal.
nice fish! usually i come back fishing after dark. when its dark i throw dark plastics and poppers on the surface. after awhile the fish bite seems to taper down and shut off. next to the swimming area there are lights shining into the water, and i hit that place every time on the way back to the boat launch after dark. pretty frequently i will get some gills or crappies out of that spot after dark! i wish there was more lights shining directly into the water all over the lake like that. i probly wouldn't leave til really late lol
nice fish
I never thought about fishing for them at night.
I have caught them on a flyrod at night below a street light at the ramp. But not as big as those bruisers you caught! I use a black sponge spider for this. A friend of mine catches them in the summer when the lake is clear at night on bluff banks on a beetle spin and uses a black light and florecent line. He fishes the beetle spin like a traditional southern bass fisherman fishes for bass at night, cranks a few turns then stops it. They bite on the fall most of the time.
nice pics and 2 thumbs up on the size of them rascals!
Gillasaurus!
Nice posting....gill is pretty!
